Bluetooth help

I have the Samsung galaxy prevail...can't seem to get the Bluetooth to be read n scanned so I can use it. Anyone else have this issue with prevail or am I doing something wrong?

I have used Bluetooth to sync contacts from old phones.

As long as settings has Bluetooth activated for both my phones and one scans for new devices, I have no issues.
