Help Bluetooth problem when Lollipop installed

tkt

Lurker
Immediately after my Galaxy Note 3 was updated to Lollipop 5.0 by Verizon, I experienced a bluetooth problem. My car bluetooth (2013 Toyota Avalon) would disconnect (unpair with "no phone found") after around 1 to 2 minutes. During the 1-2 minutes, it worked fine. The only way to reconnect was to turn the car off and back on. The pairing would then re-establish and work for another 1-2 minutes.

All my other BT devices worked fine after the Lollipop update. Several friends' phones worked fine (a VZW Note 3 still on Kitkat, an iPhone, Galaxy Edge on Lollipop) when paired to my car's BT. I removed and re-established pairing on the car and on the phone and even did a factory reset on the phone. The problem would not go away.

At first, I suspected that the problem was software because it happened immediately after Lollipop installed. I did not suspect hardware because it seemed unlikely that a BT hardware problem would occur immediately after Lollipop and would affect only 1 BT device, my car. But the factory reset on the phone didn't solve the problem and other Lollipop devices worked OK with my car's BT.

Since I had an extended warranty, I reported the problem to VZW and they sent a replacement Note 3. I updated the replacement phone to Lollipop 5.0 and now I have no problems...my car's BT stays connected.

The bottom line take-aways on this are (1) the problem was resolved with a replacement Note 3 and (2) life is complicated.
