Help bluetooth problem

I'm trying to send a file via Bluetooth,both phones are paired but it says paired but not connected and nothing seems to happen,any ideas.
Onto my second question,my friend has a merc which has Bluetooth onboard but my phone couldn't pick it up but his old
 
Are both devices "discoverable"? Remembered that my Desire wasn't last time I tried to send a file; and have also done the same with my Mac . . . . . :O
 
I'm having similar issues connecting a desire to a mbp.

Bother devices are discoverable, they pair fine. But in the Bluetooth settings on the desire under Bluetooth devices the mbp is listed as 'paired but not connected'.

I can send single files from the mac fine but I can't browse the device.

I can't do anything from the desire. The message report simply says completed then the file info with failed next to it.

Very odd.
 
I called into a T-Mobile store to bring up this issue.
I was told that it had been disabled as part of some Govt. crackdown on piracy!!!
 
Is it just me being completely naive, but when has any form of piracy be aided by the ability to pair a phone with a laptop?

following this same govt. thinking then they really should outlaw usb.
 
He'd said it was to stop people sharing music files.
It's quite possible he was fobbing me off because they know of the problem but are unable to fix it.
