Help Bluetooth randomly cuts off after a while

So, I've been pairing my EVO with my motorcycle helmet headset, a SENA SMH-10. I'll play Napster or TuneIn Radio on it streaming over 3g/4g, and I'll go riding. After a while, sometimes 10 minutes, sometimes 30 minutes, the audio will stop playing in the headset. It's still playing on the phone, and it still detects the headset as paired to the phone, and if I turn off the headset, the audio plays out of the phone. If I turn the headset back on, the music stops playing out of the phone, but it doesn't fix it in the headset.

Basically, to fix it, I just have to not use them paired together for a while. I'm trying to determine if this is a problem with the phone's bluetooth, or the headset. I'm guessing it's the phone. I am rooted with unrevoked on froyo. I am going to flash gingerbread and see if that fixes it.

Can anyone help me out? Thanks!

Do you do anything special to connect your Evo 4G to the SMH10? I just bought a SMH10 and although it seems to pair with my Evo 4G fine, all attempts to connect the two fail. I have multiple other Bluetooth devices (e.g., a Plantronics headset), and they all connect to my Evo just fine.

Edit:

Problem solved. Apparently, the secret handshake is to use the following steps:

(1) Make sure the SMH10 is powered off.
(2) Tell the Evo to connect to the SMH10.
(3) While the Evo is trying to connect, turn the SMH10 on.
