Help Bluetooth range extremely dropped after 4.4.2 update !

I am having a same problem with my samsung note 2....even I got the software changed from the samsung service center but the problem still persist.

Please help if anyone has a solution.

Ravi
Hello,

As soon as I update my Note 2's Android version to 4.4.2, bluetooth devices started to disconnect. This issue started to happen around 1 week before, just after I update my phone. I was expecting to solve it by myself but I couldn't do it. Please help me.

Bluetooth devices only work within 30-50 cm range right now. I can't use them even if my Note2 is located in my bag.

I used to play music by using BackBeat Go2 while my phone is located next room before this update

It seems like Bluetooth is working but signal power is extremely low. If I ever put my hand around BackBeat Go2, BT disconnects now.

I have been using my Note II with "Gear2" and "BackBeat Go 2" accessories without any issue prior to 4.4.2 update.

Details:
my phone: GT-N7100
Android version: 4.4.2
N7100XXUFND3

affected bluetooth devices:
Plantronics BackBeat Go 2
Samsung GEAR 2
(I have no other bluetooth devices other than these)

My phone is not rooted and bought from a retail store.
Update was done by official ways.

what I have done to solve this issue?:
- tried to remove bluetooth pairings (doesn't work)
- backup my data and HARD RESET my phone (doesn't work)
- started a live-chat with my local Samsung help desk (they said: "go to service" :) )

Does any of you have/had a similar bluetooth issue after update?
What should I do now ?

Sorry it didn't help...but definitely stop the camera and weather. I think the only solution is to force Samsung into removing 4.4.2 and reinstalling 4.3.......no luck there!

Hello everyone. Thanks for all the confirmation on this issue. I've had the same problem. All my bluetooth audio devices worked perfectly before the 4.4.2 update. Now, none of them work. I have done all that Samsung has recommended - hard reset, cleared cache in the Bluetooth apps, etc. Nothing has worked to resolve the issue! Clearly this is something with the update and Bluetooth that Samsung has not resolved, and like others, I need my Bluetooth devices to work - one of which is a Samsung earplug by the way - and it won't work at all. For those just checking in, please note that all the devices will pair, but once paired, they start checking in and out, so I agree with the person who said that it appears to be a range issue.....if I hold the phone right next to my ear (now isn't that practical!) then the Bluetooth will stay connected. Once I put it down, all connection stops. One other note - I've also noted that when I play music on the phone now, that the music starts to drag, not quite at the right speed, then it will speed up again, then normal, then a little draggy. I think that the 4.4.2 app has too many gizmos going and that the Note 2 just doesn't have enough power to drive it. And, as most of you know, many of the gizmos you can't delete or stop as they are integrated. I'll keep checking back in case someone finds a fix, as I certainly can't afford to buy a new phone! At least by reading this I was saved the funds for buying new headsets! Google, get your act together, and fix this Android version!!!

Well, I have just finished a frustrated e-mail to my local Samsung support team. I hope that if we are enough that contact support, maybe they'll give this some priority!

I have the same bluetooth range problem with my Samsung Galaxy Note 2 running 4.4.2. To try and register the bug as much as possible I called ATT (1-888-757-6500) and Samsung (1-888-987-4357) and I encourage others to do the same. Of course both were useless and we really just need someone to patch this problem.

I got same issue too. Recently, I upgraded my note 2 to 4.4.2 and since then Bluetooth having exactly same issue. Tried to downgrade to 4.2.x but can't even root it. Tried several method to root but failed. Now I have to wait for another upgrade or patch to fix this issue.

from top of home screen, swipe down, clik on gear,
clik on more, clik on app manager, scroll to right to ALL,
scroll down to Bluetooth share.clik on clear cache.this seemed to fix
my issues connecting to all my devices.good luck.

This does not fix the poor reception of Bluetooth. I also have this problem since I updated to 4.4.2

My phone needs to be located right next to the Bluetooth device or it will cut in and out constantly.

I read somewhere that Android deployed it's own Bluetooth software version. The one we previously had worked flawlessly and they should allow us to revert back to it until theirs is working.

Android are you listening? You are hurting your product by not addressing these problems and at least giving us a status update as to when it will be fixed. It's ruining your reputation and you should make sure things work before changing something that did!

UPDATE: I can't wait till someone come up with any solution. So, I unlocked and install custom rom 4.4.2. All my bluetooth problem solved even the new rom gives me more options and freedom. Though, I lost my OTA update and warranty feature but I can live without them.

So what exactly did you do? Root your phone, or just unlock? Where did you get the new rom from if I may ask? My AT&T Note 2 phone is out of warranty so I don't need to worry about that. I'm just not that up on rooting or unlocking my phone so I need a little help here. Thanks, Jim

Thanks for letting us know. I might consider doing the same, if Samsung doesn't release a fix in the near future...

I called Samsung and described this problem in detail. "Bob" gave me a case number and told me to take the phone to Best Buy to get it "Reflushed". I asked several times if he really meant "Reflushed" and if that was different than a hard reboot because I didn't want to lose all my data & settings. He was adamant that he meant "Reflushed". He assured me that all the data would be backed up and I would lose nothing.
I'm not going to risk it.
It is a huge inconvenience that the bluetooth is screwed up, but at least Samsung has another record of the issue.
Maybe they'll push an update.

My Son just spent 5 plus hrs rooting my phone to the upgraded software 4.4.2. is the latest version that he installed. The blue tooth works just like it did before the update. I am still testing it and trying to get the phone to the settings that I am accustom to. I will keep you posted with any updates.
I was looking to upgrade to the note 3 just to get a phone to work correctly. Now I think that the note 2 will work again as it should or until they send me another update. Not sure since my phone has a different software if it will be forced to accept any updates from our buddies that are launching the new note 4 any day now. Just saying???

Hello to all who are having this problem. I have spent time working and learning about the Note 2 and how to correct the bluetooth issue.

Thought process is, the phone is out of warranty so why care about the knox counter, lets get phone functionality back. Who knows if Samsung is going to push an update to fix it or not. Don't feel like waiting around to find out.

Leaves the choice to root and find a custom ROM.

I successfully followed and used around 40 different websites and forum posts.
Tested: 6 Roms 2 Bootloaders

Bluetooth worked fine in all ROMs except the OTA:rolleyes: Some ROMs were just too plain. I wanted the Samsung act and feel like which was there before.

This research led to a beautiful custom ROM produced by Electron Team

4.4.2
Bluetooth works as the way it should.
Note 3 and S5 features

It has been up and running now for about 12 hours without any major issues.

Still waiting to see the outcome of testing for the proper modem. The modem sometimes acts weird and does not produce the mobile data connection. (Phone calls and text messages will come through, email will not) A quick restart usually fixes it.

I will need time to see which modem is the most stable with this ROM and minimizes or eliminates the data connection issue.

Everything else is working perfect, and I greatly enjoy the new functionality.

Thank You Max for sharing your findings here.

I think most on this thread are having a problem with the range of our phone when connecting to a Bluetooth device. When the phone is right next to the device everything works fine. But move it just a few feet away and it starts cutting in and out.

I'm not saying the solution for your problem isn't related and it might work for the range problem also. I don't have a speaking device so I would not know if any of my contacts are mispronounced. I guess one could delete their contact list and see if the range problem goes away and then restore from a backup.

It has already been proven that a complete factory reset will not fix the range problem. Those who did never mentioned if they tested the Bluetooth before restoring from their backup to see if there might be a conflict with an app or even the contact list as in your situation.

Hopefully someone can check this out and maybe find something.

You are correct the factor reset did not do anything to the Bluetooth range.
I have had no issues with my blue tooth since getting my phone back on Sunday after the software update that was put on my phone. It works like it did before.
I am having issues with the modem. It does not want to connect since the software was changed. It only happens about 10 to 15% of the time. I just try the call a few times and it does connect. I am trying different modems to see which one will correct the problem??

Hi Paul,

This is the reason I don't want to root my phone. Fixes one thing but causes worst problems.

I can live with having to have my phone close to my Bluetooth device, but if I couldn't connect to my modem that would be a big problem.

Good luck with your modem issues.

Jim

Hi Ravenjim,

You're correct! But the point is that the problem of a distorted sound, which was most likely the result of the bad BT connection on a distances even lesser than 1 meter, gone too!

Hi :)

I've got the same problem with BT range. I've found temporary solution to this problem. In my device (with 4.4.2 for BTU region) there is a bit weird connection between BT module and Wifi. When i'm connected to hotspot on 2.4 GHz, BT range is like it was before 4.4.2. When i'm connected to 5 GHz range is weak.

In the area, that you can't be connected to any hotspot, you can enable WiFi hotspot in your phone, that provides 2.4 GHz connection. :)

Hi All,

The band-aid solution for me, will be just to activate the tethering and that somewhat cure the problem.

Hope that helps.

Thanks a lot cart_man, this really works!!!

It is not practical and the tethering automatically turn off if there is no connected device after awhile, but this totally useful.

Hopefully Samsung updates this soon :(
