Boom - I got my prime today !

I am fairly new to the world of Android, but I am all in at this point. My experience consists of using my Motorola Photon 4G, and I love it. I had been considering getting a tablet for a while, my wife has an iPad that I bought her for our anniversary two years ago.

I went to OFFICE DEPOT of all places and the guy said he has a ton of them. I brought it home and began messing with it. It is charging now and I can't wait to go on vacation Wednesday and have a week to play with it.

I dont have a single complaint yet. This site is super informative and I will be visiting two sections of it now.

WOOT !

did you get the keyboard dock as well? if not i would look into investing in it. now that i have the keyboard, i rarely use my laptop now.

I have not yet bought the keyboard extension, but will probably do so while I am on vacation at my parents house this coming week.

I had a friend root and load CM9 on my photon and witnessed the incredible jump in speed and agility (other than 4G and camera) on that. I am curious whether or not people are doing the same on the tablet. I can see some ASUS specific items interwoven into ICS, but they dont really bother me at all. I like the default time/date/email widgets that come loaded on there, and would be curious to hear of any benefits.

I intend to use it primarily for email, some note taking, and general web media consumption. I would love to hear how you all are using yours. Spark some new ideas in my old head.

Respect,
Muq

i was looking into rooting my prime s well, but as of now the devs have not come out with a rom that has the keyboard support yet. once they do i will probably root it. plus there is not many roms out for it yet.

To clarify, you need to unlock the bootloader to use ROMs. Rooting will not give you that capability. Unlocking the bootloader has some disadvantages:
1) Voids your warranty
2) Can't be undone
3) Can't take OTA updates

Also, Primalicious and Virtuous Prime ROMs are just tweaks of the stock ROM, so they should work with the dock (but you should read the threads to confirm).
[ROM] [04/06/12] Primalicious 9.4.2.21 Five Versions Added - xda-developers
[ROM][S Series][30.03.12] Virtuous Prime 9.4.2.21 v1 - xda-developers

I havent really had the need to root my Prime yet but I'm itching as well. I been trying to hold out til I feel like I've broken this thing in enough and mastered what it does the normal way before I root it. I have a rooted Evo 3D and using Clean Rom. Its good to always be able to connect. Things seem to be getting better for the device and I too would recommend the dock. I'm spoiled with the battery life because of it....

I am writing this from the comfort of my couch with the keyboard dock. This thing rocks the house. I was sitting at my PC checking the thread when I thought, what the hell am i doing?

I love this thing so far, although it would be nice to disable the touchpad when typing because it keeps hijacking my cursor and causing me to mistype.

VERY COOL Over all

Primalicious ROM solves the gps issues without additional hardware (see my post in the transformer prime root section here). You cannot overclock to 1.6 - 1.8 with out root. Adblock is essential to make most free apps not annoying with a ton of ads. Sixaxis controller app is just sex for ps3 controller apps that actually turns off the controller when your done with it. Chainfire3d is just kickass if your a gamer. If your a linux person you can run ubuntu or backtrack on your prime. Loading custom boot animations and other various tweaks. So ummm yeah, rooting and flashing a custom rom is definitly worth it. Im pro primalicious odex if you need a recommendation.

I'm sure that I'll unlock/ROM at some point in the future. For now, I'm happy with stock/rooted.

Welcome aboard! Which Office Depot did you go to? I got mine at the GameStop at Pentagon City Mall. Keyboard through Amazon (had a gift card). Love the Prime. Honestly, for your uses (which are similar to mine), rooting isn't that big a deal. I love stock ICS on my Prime and Nexus. If I had a Photon, I'd root that thing the second I got it (which I did with my Bionic) to get rid of Motoblur. If you're happy with the Prime stock, I wouldn't bother. One thing you can do is load up Nova Launcher. It adds some nice functionality but isn't overly themed like other launchers.
