Root boost and rooting

My friend had his evo set up to work on boost. Can he root still? If he roots would it default to Sprint?

He can still root it. If its set up through boost its already "defaulted" to boost.

What hboot version is the phone running on? I am not sure that a boost Evo would get the same OTA that the regular sprint customers would but it is possible.

Rooting is the process of unlocking admin privileges on our phones to allow us to make changes to them and use them to their potential versus what the carrier/manufacturer wants us to.
