Root Boost is updating the prevail to 2.3 gingerbread next week

Before I finally found this thread, I was having all kinds of problems getting Gingerbread on my rooted Prevail with Sabbymod. I finally got right last night using the links in the Odin thread. Huge help! I used the EJ06 Gingerbread Stock Image made by Koumajutsu and EJ06 Gingerbread Rooted Image with CWM5 made by Chin Checka links, and things are ALMOST perfect.

I've lost access to some apps. Most notably, it seems I no longer have access the Android Market, or Google Maps. If I go to the market on my computer to try to download Maps again, it says it's already installed. Does anyone know what's going on here? I use Maps a LOT, and it's a royal pain to not have it.

One more question. Sorry if it's already been answered, but I have trouble with the search function here for some reason. Now that I have Gingerbread and am rooted, is there a working ShabbyMod version for it yet? I was really digging it when I had it.

but.... one thing i noticed since updating is i keep getting a google authentication error n im not able to download from market any fixes for it yet? if so direct me to the right thread?

Edit: "apparently going to" setting - application - manage application "go into any thing with gtalk, market or google in its name and" - clear the data "u should fix it...."
 
so im still havin probs along with sum1 else on the top of this(rfPapaBear) i can access market, but can not download anything...just says that whatever im tryin to download cant because theres an error...always get a notification about google voice failed to authenticate...i can call and txt and all that fine, wifi works(i dnt tether due to lack of service in my area)...surf web...

idk wat that means but i had this phone before, and after the gb update, i kno the version changed to gb...but as far as kernals and such go im not sure what thats about...is there a way that i can get rid of or change the boost mobile thing at the startup of the screen? and about partitioning...is that the same as partitioning a computer? makin ur sd card part of the phone memory kind of thing? thanks ahead of time if ne1 can help
 
Go to settings/manage applications and force stop download manager, google framework services and then market. Exit out and restart market. Should fix the problem
 
Just tried doin that, it seemed like it'd work. I I got the terms and serv options, and then when I tried to download sumthing I got the same error message :(
 
Hi, I'm new to the whole root thing and i downloaded the root link and attempted to root my prevail but it keeps giving me messages about KillingMeSoftly being a bogus file... any ideas? or has the root scheme for the new update not come out yet?
 
i followed the instructions that are at the beginning of this thread...followed the video, thats what i needed...im not sure what i did but last night i randomly turned off my phone and started it back up...i was able to use the market for about 20 mins so i d/l as much stuff as i could, but now once again im gettin the error message...i use 4shared to get apks but sumtimes they dnt have wat im want/need at that point in time...could it possible that deleting certain bloat ware cause the error messages to pop up? and if it is, is there a way to get them back or do i have to unroot and factory reset and root again? :(
 
Several people have posted to ask questions such as "My wife got the OTA Gingerbread update, but I did not".

Normally, I keep "Auto Synch" and "Background Synch" and Wi-Fi turned OFF to save battery life. I wanted to download a app from the app market, so I turned on Auto Synch and Background Synch. After I downloaded the new app, I was informed that updates were available for five of my older apps. I downloaded the updates. (I later UNinstalled updates to apps that I never used, as those updates consumed a lot of internal memory).

After I had finished downloading and installing the updates, the OTA update to Gingerbread began. It caught me off-guard, as I did not know an OTA update to Gingerbread existed. I was NOT asked whether or not I wanted to update...the update process simply began automatically.

After the update, I had an extra bar of signal strength at all locations (my kitchen's one bar increased to two bars) average download speed (as measured by Speed Test) doubled from around 400 kbps to around 800 kbps and battery life increased by about 50%. I charge the battery at 10 p.m. and 24 hours later, I still have about 20% battery life remaining. (That is with Bluetooth off, GPS Location off, Google Maps off, Auto Synch and Background Synch off, and Wi-Fi off except when actually in use).

I am GUESSING that I may have triggered the OTA update by turning Wi-Fi on, Auto Synch and Background Synch on. It is also possible that downloading updates from Android Market was part of the "trigger" as the OTA update began as soon as those updates were completed.

One of the smallest Gingerbread changes is my favorite: to end a call with Froyo I had to swipe a red button across the screen just after pressing the screen unlock button. This required two hands to do correctly. Gingerbread changed the phone menu so that to end a call I just press screen unlock and tap a red button on the screen...much easier for me to do.

I had already installed the Gingerbread keyboard (which I love) so I don't know if the Gingerbread keyboard gets installed with the OTA Gingerbread. It also installed a Google Books app and three free "classic" books. For some reason, the Google Books app is easier to read on the Prevail than the Nook book app...it has clear, crisp, high contrast fonts.
 
Hey Shabby I hope you are doing ok, I have a question and I know you will help me on this. how can I get rid of the GB upgrade pop up window on my galaxy prevail phone? It keeps on coming up every 5-10 minutes. I looked every where and couldn't find any answers help please!!! I'm very happy with my Shabbymod .9 and waiting to get the 1.0.

I am new to this phone so sorry if I am asking something redundant. Do you know if they are going to be rebuilding the file system away from RFS with this update and use ext4? I am currently modifying the nandroid script to work with the prevail and better understand what it does and one of the first stopping blocks is the RFS file system mounts. I would avoid putting the work in if they are planning to dump it in favor of something open. From what I see there is a kernel module out there for RFS that should make this work but it seems ClockWorkMod does imaging without any issues so there may already be a solution.

I'm not sure about other people but for me I just kept pulling down the drop box and click the remind me later option. After doing that for awhile it just stopped popping IP. Although if I rebooted it would come back and I had to keep clearing it until it left again

I apologize if this has been answered already but I am getting prompted for the new Gingerbread OTA update and I am currently running rooted Froyo EE14 update. My question is: if I accept the update via OTA, what will happen? Will it just successfully update me to Gingerbread and just unroot me and then I can just re-root? Or should I deny the OTA and just use the Odin method to update just to be safe and then re-root that way? Just wondering before I decide. Thanks in advance. :)
 
After you update it will get rid of the root you already have, after that you can just re root it using the updated one click root. You don't need to use Odin, I did'nt. Some people posted they were having problems, I myself had the same you have now, but I did a factory reset first, the update downloaded and I installed it, then I did another factory reset, then I rooted the phone. I had no problems at all, don't know if the factory resetting had any effect at all, but that';s just me. My phone is much faster, more responsive in every way, does not freeze or crash anymore like Froyo was doing. Froyo sucks looking back now.lol It's worth it in my opinion, just make sure your battery is charged, I fully charged mine and left it plugged in to the outlet at the same time.

Hey I have one more question @x432hz or anyone else.
I have a lot of apps on my phone. Should I remove the sd card before doing a wipe or will it be safe to wipe with the sd card in? Thanks
 
Hey the OTA update didn't work for me! It downloaded but when it restarted to install it it froze while it was trying to install and had a triangle with an exclamation point in it, so I rebooted it and I checked about phone it is still showing Froyo EE14 but when I try to check for system updates it says your system is currently up to date! WTF?! :confused: What could have went wrong? Should I just use Odin now? Any help will be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Just use Odin. That's what I did. I never bothered with the update myself. I figured why update GB, root, etc, etc. Just Odin GB with root and kouma all at once. So simple, its like killing an entire flock of birds with one stone :D

Yep.. I was rooted on froyo with shabby .9 loaded and simple blue. A2sd. Etc. Etc.

I just plugged in to Odin and ran the GB with root and kouma kernel. Its the chin checka version. Very nice :)

Ok. A couple more things. Did you have to wipe data at all when you did this? And do I just include the GB with root and kouma kernel in Odin correct? Thanks. :)
Sorry if I'm being a pest. :o Just wanna make sure I do it right. Lol
