Root [Boost Mobile] Another way to root from cwm

Hi guys,

If you installed beta cwm from this thread, you might want to try to root using this method.

steps:
1. download su-2.3.6.3-efgh-signed.zip from here and put it on your sdcard.
md5 checksum: a2844ac335a5c1cfdb9bea2fc041b415
2. turn off your tablet and go to cwm menu using vol up + power combo.
3. select install zip from sdcard >> choose zip from sdcard >> su-2.3.6.3-efgh-signed.zip

Done. The next reboot you should have root.

Notes: beta cwm still have bugs. It will locked up after a couple of minutes. Since this steps should take less then a minute, you will not find the bug. But IF the tablet locked during installing the zip file, it should NOT mess your system, since all it does is trying to copy two files to system partition. If this happens, just redo the steps.

Please let me know if it works.

Just installing superuser doesnt mean your rooted.

so im using the handset update tool to return to stock at the moment. but as soon as that is finished i will try this method. ill post feedback. also would appreciate quick tips so that i can help in the testing of roms and such.

wait which build/beta should i use from said thread?

and how would one know if they were rooted using this method

ok this is gonna sound bad but how exactly should i do it? i have the recovery on my sdcard (i only have 3 folders on the whole sdcard) should i boot into recovery independent of the pc since i have it on the sdcard? im being cautious only because while its easy to re-stock the warp it is time consuming. i just got back to stock btw

Yes independent of the PC and put the zip at the root of your SD card.

so both recovery and su.zip are located in /mnt/sdcard according to file manager. is this the correct placement, i only ask cuz after lurking in the forums it seems file placement is key

ok so ive decided to boot into recovery and install b13 and cross my fingers lol

i only see the su.zip no b13, booted into recovery independent of the pc, chose the sdcard option but no recovery image

we need a more real-time communication option

Install from zip. locate zip and install it. Ohh geez you dont know how to install the recovery. Go back to testers wanted thread and follow the instructions on post one.

haha i remember that but am going to reference it just to be safe

so i did as woodstock suggested and referenced the first post of testers wanted i found the clockworkmod recovery, this confuses me, i thought cwm-r and such were only for devices already rooted/superuser

is the method we all thought was full root only a partial?

will be on again in about 8-9 hours, is skype an option for comm
awake and ready to test but i am fairly new at this so yea lol im gonna need some pointers

Well Im already rooted and I dont see a problem with the OCR method. I dont understand how someone replaces recovery without rooting first and since Im already rooted and dont want to go through all the BS to return to stock to test this you might want someone else to help you out. As for full root and partial myth no its either you are or you arent. There is debate on s-off and s-on which means security off. If you want your phone unsecured go for it but personally I say no.

either way i rooted using the one click root. i just dont know enough about what im doing and without some quick tips i cant be much help as a tester, but i am very avid about furthering the great ongoing work here. i guess i just need to do a lil more research :)
