Root [Boost Mobile] cant change keyboard and battery dies too quick

So i have a zte warp. I put a basic rom on it and had it for awhile. I think it was the windows 7 theme. I am now running a new one, its the warp cream sandwich. Somewhere along the line ( i think when i first started playing with roms) my keyboard is stuck on the android keyboard. I have tried everything to change it but nothing works it must me messed up in the firmware or whatever. I prefer the gingerbread keyboard. The one thats on here wont auto correct at all so i misspell a lot and i would like to try the ice cream sandwich keyboard as well. If anyone could help that would be great.

On top of the keyboard my battery dies very quickly, quicker then usual. I can play zynga poker on a full battery for less then an hour and even on standby my phone wont even make it through a 10 hour work shift with only calling the girlfriend for about 20 min at lunch and 4 or 5 text messages. Nothing running in the background. I just ordered the extended battery for it hopeing that will help but i still think it should last longer then it does. If anyone has any ideas on that let me know as well. Thanks everyone.

Hold down the box it will give you a chance to select keyboard. Pick what you want. (Box being where you wanna text) battery life depends on what's running. I have the same problem when my phone searches for service all day. Is this the issue?

I have tried everything to change the keyboard. I have it selected in the menu and i have held down and selected input method. It still stays the same android keyboard. And my phone almost always has service where i work and live and i turn off the wifi when i get to work to save more battery. I also close all my apps i never leave them running. Just while typing this my battery has gone down so far that soon i will be putting it on the charger for the third time today. Neither of those are the problem.

Without a question you will only fair better by taking the steps to send it in for repair or replace. You may want to give a hard reset a try first as well as wipe the sd card. That has fixed many problems.Don't forget to back up your contacts, music, photos, videos etc...Good luck and have a Great Day.

Ok well i think at this point i am more concerened about the keyboard. When i started changing roms is when i ran into problems. I have reset this phone before thats not the issue. I truely belive it is messed up somewhere in the programing. You can select input method it will drop the keyboard down and back up as if it changed but when you select input method it is still the android keyboard. Any suggestions? This is a rooted phone currently running warp creme sandwich.

i'm a little late, I know.

BUT

With a custom ROM, sometimes you have to reboot after setting the keyboard, or it will not stick. Another thing I can suggest is reboot into CWM, go to Advanced > Fix Permissions.

Try those two methods, and see if that helps.

Download and install the latest version of my rom... the earlier versions of it had bugs and glitches

OH and as far as battery life is concerned...

There's an app called JuiceDefender. I recommend it. It really saves battery a lot by disabling 3G/Wifi/etc when they aren't needed.

I have tried rebooting and fixing.permissions. still the same keyboard that dosent like to.fix my mistakes. I have yet to download the most recent version of the rom. But it was doing this before i downloaded the rom. I was hoping a new rom would fix it.

My fix for this was to use Titainum Back Up from the play store, and uninstall the keyboard. I know it was a bug for his earlyer roms but it is fixed in the new rom. But uninstalling it will fix the problem as well. Then you long press on the text area to choose the keyboard you wanna use. Make sure you check the keyboard you wanna use in settings first. This should fix the problem and you should not have to reboot.

And Battery Booster well help with your battery problem as well. It's free app in the play store. Those extended battries they make are fatter then the ones that come with the phone, you'll need a new backing to use it. Plus your phone will be fatter and heavy.

BEFORE the rom? As in on stock...?

What keyboard are you trying to switch to? Did you go to Menu > Language and Keyboard > and check the keyboard you want? And THEN longpress something (IE Messaging field) and select Input Method?

OK so uninstalling the android keyboard worked. I just uninstalled it and the first time I went to use the keyboard it realized it wasent there and automatically went to swype and from there I have changed it to the warp creme sandwich and the gingerbread keyboard. Both work no reboot. Now I will start playing with the battery saving apps. I have had my phone off the charger for an hour and I only have 45 percent left. Does anyone know the steps to take to clear the battery state?
