Root [Boost Mobile] Can't seem to root...

Well-Known Member
Hello fellow rooters...

I've been at this for days now and I cant seem to find a solution for the life of me, and i'm finally turning to the boards for help. I have a fresh ZTE Warp here with the 0b08c update that im trying to root using Crunchbang Linux. I've installed the linux set of drivers that came with the phone. Installation of them was pretty straight forward. Now when I go to use Interdpth's WarpDrive.sh script in linux (it was the only tool i could find to root the warp under linux) I get the following error:

myndctrl@developement:~/documents/WarpDrive$ sudo bash WarpDrive.sh

OCR for ZTE Warp

Thanks to Revoultion and their zergs.

I previously rooted a prevail with no problems. So I have some knowledge of how this should work. I just dont understand whats going on or how I can fix it, so a little input would be great. Thanks in advance guys I appreciate all your hard work.

Permission denied huh...What if you log in under crunchbang as SU? Not sure how to do it in that variation, but in Ubuntu open terminal....sudo su...enter password...then try navigating to the .sh script and running it that way? Just a thought.

Use snake's ultimate warp drive

I downloaded his warp drive, however i read a short faq he wrote and it explicitly said it will not work for linux or mac. I did try to run his .bat script through wine but with no avail.

What steps are you using? Do you have cwm? Did you copy su to your SD cardand click install zip?

I open up my terminal, cd to the directory and type sudo bash WarpDrive.sh. That's when the script runs, and i get that error. I did not copy su to my sd card, I didnt think i had to. I thought the script did that. But I will give that a shot. I have the cwm image, but if i can't get root i can't get this image on there correct? im just a little baffled

Crunchbang is very similar to ubuntu. They actually share some of the same repo's. I have tried logging in as su. What I did was su -l and put in admin password. Then cd to my home directory and from there ran bash WarpDrive.sh like i did previously but I got the same result.

This is just baffling. I feel like im missing something here and I can't put my finger on it....

Thanks for the input though, im willing to try any and all suggestions :)

I can't get my Warp rooted either. I wonder if it's at all possible that some enterprising developer could come up with a .apk package so we could just run a program on the phone and root without a computer. ;-)

I am 100% sure that i can get this working....if i was on a windows pc. My problem is, in on a linux box, with the sdk, and Linus drivers installed and i can't get it to work. Im starting to think its a driver issue on linux and until that's figured out i can't do anything besides install windows on my laptop. Which as a matter of fact i think in gonna do today. I just want to see my phone rooted and delve in its true potential. Ill let you know how i do

Why not use a virtual machine and/or wine?

Also krowbarr there is a bat automated file. Ultimate warp drive its called.

I've tried that. As a matter of fact i believe that's the one i have the most success with. I use wine actually. I never thought of using a virtual machine though. I just know running the bat scripts under wine that i get the same result as bash scripts in linux. I think its the drivers. So in a bit ill just dualboot crunching/vista on my machine and give it a shot. I've been through them steps so many times i could do it from memory! Lol ill post back with results :)

Wine may not have worked due to not having all proprietary drivers and whatnot. Dual boot/vm is your best bet. Good luck!

The .bat files in snakex's root are just adb commands . Open it with gedit and manually type the commands in terminal . Hope this helps

I did it on a B08C Warp, no problem, but I didn't use Wine, just the sdk.

You will want to place fastboot into the same directory as adb before starting.

You have adb installed - take the "ultimate warp drive" folder that you got by unzipping Snake's zip from - http://androidforums.com/warp-all-things-root/490927-root-recovery-ultimate-warp-drive.html

- and move that into the same folder where you have adb located.

Copy and paste each of my commands in order, one at time - you'll have to do the manual step where you do the front-panel thing on the phone to ensure that you're on usb debugging where necessary.

From the directory where adb, fastboot and "ultimate warp drive" folder are located:

Code:
cd ultimate\ warp\ drive/

# ensure connectivity, showing your phone

../adb devices
../adb devices

# get into bootloader

../adb reboot bootloader

# kill server

../adb kill-server

# ensure that you have the image you need with the ls command

ls *img

# flash recovery image

../fastboot flash recovery ztewarpcwm5028c.img

# now follow Snake's commands to the letter

../fastboot reboot
../adb kill-server
../adb start-server
../adb wait-for-device
../adb reboot recovery

# now ensure that you have Superuser.zip

ls *zip

# push it to the sd card, then proceed to install it

../adb push SuperUser.zip /sdcard/SuperUser.zip

cd install_commands/
cd root_cwm_command/

../../../adb push command /cache/recovery/

# return up to ultimate warp drive folder

cd ../..

../adb reboot recovery

../adb wait-for-device

# ensure you have the sh file in this folder, then push it

../adb push ext4check.sh /system/bin/ext4check.sh

# confirm you have su privileges with shell session, exit from there when happy

../adb shell

# reboot, you're done
../adb reboot

# enjoy your rooted Warp
Hope this helps.

Works on Mac or Linux.

Snake did an ace job on this. :)

I've only tried this on the B08C model.

Well, I tried EarlyMon's tips with no success. Maybe it just wasn't meant to happen on crunchbang, however I did install a fresh copy of Vista, updated it fully, installed the correct drivers with pdanet and I got my phone rooted on the first go with snake x's ultimate warp drive tool. Thanks alot for your hard work everyone, I appreciate all the tips. But now it's time to check out some roms :)
