Root [Boost Mobile] Compare ROMS and Kernels

iram

Android Enthusiast

Now that I have been rooted for a few weeks with apparently no problems using Alien Kernel
(the only issues have been rebooting when using NAV app and system periodically wants to do a system update)
Maybe it

Hi Iram!! Alien Kernel 3 is the best bet right now. DM is upgrading it, Jim Smith is also working on a new Kernel.

Roms, CM10 is 98% Finished.
The other three are the most up to date with all the newest tweaks.
DroidSmith and Warp OEM are finished, Stable and Solid.
HaloBean is still a Work in progress. Runs Great!! But is still being
updated on a regular basis, just getting better and better.

Thank you for your thoughts on this.
Right now my most used apps are these:

K-9 Mail
Battery solo widget
Navigation (Google) app
Avast Mobile Security
My Data Manager App
Notification Toggles
Digital Clock Widget
Equalizer
Stock Browser
Big Buttons keyboard
No Lock

I've down loaded a lot more but almost never use any of them.

any comments on which Rom may most closely match these or as I assume best is just to experiment with all of them.

I'm just a touch confused on the differences on each.

I gather eventually back up everything.....then install a Rom .....Would I need to revert back to stock before installing a Rom or can you replace a Rom over another Rom?

Any of the 3 complete ROMs should work great for you. CM10 is not ready for final release yet. WOEM is stable, fast and feature packed. Halo Bean has been my daily driver on my Warp for quite some time now. Skinny performs very frequent updates because he's trying to get the most out of this phone, but the current version runs great and you do not have to update each time if you don't want. Droidsmith is also very stable.

I would recommend HaloBean, mostly because Skinny is active quite often here and if you had an issue, you'll get a quick response.

You do not have to return to stock. Installing a new ROM will wipe your system and install all fresh and shiny new... be sure to back up important stuff like contacts and files to play it safe. These will be deleted. Google will sync your contacts as long as they are stored in your google account. Otherwise export a vcard of your contacts to your sd card before flashing. I suggest downloading your apps from the play store instead of restoring with titanium. This ensures a clean download...

Thank you I was tending to lean towards HaloBean. I will go through all my backups first. Im wondering while I do have contacts and apps backed up to google. I also have a copy of sd card backed up to main pc. Wondering if it wouldn't be a bad idea to wipe the sd card to clear up unneeded files from old apps and stuff Just put back in the Rom and back up files. That would give a lot more storage space.

.................Its a learning curve Im so used to stock Rom comfortable with it...Just hope eventually to solve or at least minimize freezes and reboots when using NAV app

App data is usually wiped from the sd card without touching anything else. Of course, there are sometimes still things left over in other places of the sd card but they won't be deleted for sake of keeping the SD card safe. I don't ever wipe my card, but if you want it won't hurt the phone at all (in fact, formatting within a Rom might even make it perform better) :)

Apparently Google Play on the Web shows all apps as being installed. At one time it showed installed and uninstalled separately. It appears there's a bug in the system as per references on web...

Any thoughts on how to get a printout of Just what is currently installed on phone

The Installed tab in Manage Applications should give you such a list.

Thanks....ur right was just hoping to be able to print it out rather than copying it out by hand
