Root [Boost Mobile] Did the latest update kick root?

Randumb

Lurker
I declined the latest update for days but apparently my phone updated itself and now wireless tether doesn't work. My super user app is still intact and still works. Is my phone unrooted or are there problems with the wireless tether app?

The best way to find out is by using a root app :D try titanium backup and see what it says itll tell you if your rooted or not hope that helps

It won't automatically update, however, if for some reason it tried your phone would have entered into bootloader and failed the OTA update from boost (like mine and countless others to get the stupid reminder to go away lol). It sounds to me that your tether app may just need reloaded or permissions renewed through su. I don't recall Barnacle Tether requiring root, perhaps try that. What are you running? Are you running a ROM? I can't get any ROM on our forum to allow tether to work. You can always run superuser or like apollostar said, another app requiring root access, or you can download the rootchecker free app but I don't think you'll have to.
Edit: Barnacle requires root. Duh. My bad lol been a long day already

For anybody that is still worried that the OTA update will kick root off of their phone, you can always download the free Voodoo OTA Rootkeeper off the Play Store. It backs up your root and will even let you temp un-root for some apps out there that require you to be unrooted to run them. They're out there and I think it's stupid too.

it kicked my root and clockwork. its a bullshit update. and the only way to get itto install is if If ur in stock recovery but its not worth it in my opinion...

Just curious, what were you running when the update happened because that really sucks and we should make others aware so they backup their root first

i did the update 2 times.1st time i was running b08,i hit install later, flashed to stock recovery, rebooted, and then when it poped up again i did the install, and it updated and then rebooted.and then i flashed back to Clockwork, booted and then when i tried to go into one of my apps that require root it said i didnt have root.so i when i tried to reboot into recovery,it went to the stock instead of cwm, even though after i flashed back to cwm...even when i when to b08c the update kept poping up.and then i did the same shit all over again.i had to use the untimate warp about 3 times to finally get my root and clockwork to stick...so much for all the talk of this update being a b08c push, cuz why would it keep trying to push the update if i already have b08c??its freaking weird, but whatever boost is trying to do wit that update is kinda shady in my opinon, ive never seen an update that would cause root lose.not to mention when u try to view the info bout the update it just gives u that bullshit about a zte software update...

I ran (or tried at least) Titanium and it said I need to be rooted . This is such shit! Is there a way to root after the latest update?
