Root [Boost Mobile] how to port a rom?

Well now that i have a good understanding of how linux works in *general* is there anything that will guide me on the files and parts of linux that are more toward android and are specific to android? I rhink what would be best is something that tells me what each of th directories are for and what kinda files lay within them.. that way i know whats what
