Root [Boost Mobile] ***need help***

YELAWOLF

Lurker
I'm looking for some advice on my issue. I have a galaxy s3 sph-l710. I recently just rooted the phone. Everything worked out great, then one night i was laying in bed with the Rom tool box pro app opened and was trying to change up some of my phones visuals. I'm a complete noob when it comes to all this. But at the same time i'm not all completely dumb. I tried changing my pull down screen with some of the pre selected features in the app. Once i made the selection to the pull down screen image that i wanted i got a series of random "unfortunately" messages. So i re-booted the phone and it wouldn't go past the start up screen. It was stuck at the Samsung screen. After doing my research its quite clear i have soft-bricked my phone. I'm wondering what steps i need to take. Can i go ahead and just install a custom ROM? Or should i go with a complete factory/data wipe? I myself am leaning towards just installing BOOST's stock rom. Could someone please send me the correct link so i may do so. Please and thank you!!!
Or if installing a custom rom which route should i go? links to that as well...
Once again thanks a million

Hiya!

You could try a factory reset but I don't see it solving this problem as what you did sent yourself into a bootloop.

2 options to work yourself out of this.

Wipe your data/cache/system followed by a flash of any rom via your custom recovery.

Or

Odin your phone completely back to stock via a sammobile firmware.

I'd go for the first option obviously :)

Small advice, when your doing anything at all root related, make sure you make a nandroid before hand or have one laying around.

Thanks my guy for your response. So you don't think that i've managed to get it soft bricked then? Could you please go into detailed...I mean down to every keystroke, and mouse point on your first option. It'd be greatly appreciated. Also could u suggest a ROM that is sought after, or that is badass!!! One that will run smoothly as well. The sooner you can type to me a detailed guide/walk through the better. I'm a business owner, and my customers MUST have a way of getting into contact with me...Thanks bro!!! Really thanks man it means a lot....

Alright firstly, you do have a custom recovery (cwm, twrp or philz yes?

I'm not familiar with any roms boost has to offer, but you can look through this thread

http://androidforums.com/boost-mobi...ng-roms-mods-kernels-modems-ect-boost-s3.html

Once you find one, download it and transfer it into your SD card.

Boot into recovery (power, home and volume up) when the device is powered off.

Go into your wipe menu and select to wipe data, cache and system.

After that go back, select install from SD card and choose the rom, after it flashes reboot and you should be good to go.

If you're still having problems just let me know. It sounds like you are in a bootloop which is usually an easy thing to fix.

I'll be around for a about and hour. If you haven't fixed it by then, let me know and I'll help you get it fixed.

Hopefully it's as easy as y'all are sayin. I'm totally new to all this. So instruction is going to be necessary... First off I would like to know what ROM stands for to begin with. Secondly what does TWRP mean? Could either one of you throw me up a download link for some custom ROM's to Boost mobile phones. I've basically got the gist of how to install. I just don't really know any of the in-between steps that's needed. So i'll gladly be willing to accept "ANY & ALL" knowledge. What are some of boost mobiles ROM's that are most commonly used. I'll be working today here soon so i wont be able to try anything out until i get done for the day. But the second i'm done working. I'll hop right on up here to begin working on my issue...
Thanks a million you two...Really! Honestly I appreciate it a lot...NO...TREMENDOUSLY!!!!

Since your rooted, you have to have a custom recovery as that was needed to flash superuser, so we won't worry about that for now.

When I was on the sprint s3, wicked sensations was my favorite rom and I see it's available for the boost s3. So that's what I would recommend.

Rom is read only memory, otherwise it's pretty much an modified Android operating system.

Twrp = team win recovery project. That's a custom recovery that you would flash a rom, kernel, modifications etc from.

Like I said above, download the rom above and transfer it to your sd card.

To verify, hold down power, volume up and home at the same time. As long as the screen that comes up doesn't say "Android system recovery" we're in good shape without having to flash a recovery via Odin.

Once you've got the rom transferred into your SD card, in your recovery, you'll see a "wipe" menu. It may not say exactly that but it will be similar. You'll want to wipe "cache" "data" and "system".

Once that's done, you'll navigate back to the main recovery menu. From here, select "install from sd card, navigate where you placed that rom and select to install it. Give it up to 5 minutes to install. It should say completed and choose to reboot.

After that you should be golden.
