I think this witch hunt has gotten way out of hand. I'm completely guilty of it. I think this all started when we lost hroark. Either way it needs to stop!
It's kind of a natural reaction to call trolls on the carpet. We totally understand.
And it's kind of natural to get the old radar up once a group has been trolled. We get that, too.
Our request is as soon as one is suspected, please report it instead of replying.
Investigating trolls is a job and we never mind doing it. If a lot of personal posts go along with it, then it makes a second job that just slows down the troll investigation job.
If someone comes along posting what seems sorta hinky, challenge their facts so you can decide. That's cool.
If the facts don't jive, say so. Cool.
Give them time to respond. Maybe you just caught a troll, or maybe the cat needs time to absorb his mistake. Both happen.
If they delay, ok to report and get us checking while waiting. No such thing as a bad report.

We can't discuss everything we find because our member privacy policy has to protect everyone or it protects no one.
We're going to straight up trust our members that no reports are part of a personal deal. In trade, we ask trust when we can't discuss everything we know.
We don't set policy and mods are under strict oversight. The great thing about the private chats section is that the guy who does set policy and oversee us, Phases, will read your side there, every time. He will speak up as required and cares about your input - that's how he sets policy.
But on one thing, policy is clear - no attacking people in public. Attack issues, not other members. No public opinions to the contrary can be ok. It's just a hard rule, just the same as no software piracy.
It's nothing personal from us, it just is what it is - a rule.
downthemachine, I think that you have done a great job leading by example when challenging hinky posts.
Normally a mod won't get this chatty in one of your threads. But Phases values transparency so that's what I am going for.
