Root [Boost Mobile] Stock Media Removal and/or Replacement

Two things...

First is that ive put my own ringtones on the phones internal memory, in the system>media>audio folder, as needed for alarms, ringers, etc. I removed the audio tones that came with the phone, but some of them still show up on the list when i go to change a ringtone or message alert. I can click on them and it plays the preview. Im guessing that theyre cached in the system somewhere, but i dont really know.

Secondly, where is the stock wallpaper located? Id like to put a few of my favorite ones on the internal memory, and remove a lot of the ugly stock ones that i never use.

Thanks for reading! Hope someone can help me out!

EDIT: Just to be clear, when i say that I removed the old ringtones, i do mean from the phone completely. They arent on the internal or sd memory any more.

I believe I seen the default boost logo wallpaper in the framework-res.apk or in the systemui.apk, as for the others, I haven't seen them yet

I know from experience it requires a reboot for the deleted ones to fully disappear from the list. As far as wallpaper, Launcher.apk. In the res/drawable directory. Use root explorer, search for launcher.apk, its in /system/app i believe im not quite sure.

Alright, thanks for pointing me inthe right direction.

Sorry, forgot to mention that I have rebooted the phone... many times over the past week or so since i was messing with audio tones. Thats why i was assuming that they were cached in the system somewhere, cause after several reboots, some are still showing up... but not all of them...?

So, next question... how do i manipulate the apk files to remove the stock wallpapers from inside them? It seems that i read somewhere that you can open the apk in a different app, or pc software, which extracts the apk's files for editing. Then you edit the intrrnal files and recompile them back to .apk .

Is that right, and if so, whats the editing software called? Does it run on the phone, or is a pc needed? And of course, if wrong, set me straight!

Sorry if the questions are basic, or the terminology is incorrect, but idk what the hell im doing here! Im just winging it!

Thanks again

EDIT: as for adding my own wallpaper, can i just make a folder in the system/media directory, and drop them in there, like you do on the sd card?

Okay, so i figured out that i can long press the apk (launcher2, in this case), and choose extract all when browsing with root explorer. I can then go to the sd/extracted directory and see internal files. But how do i save it back to apk?

Do it on your PC, then send it back over. I forgot the name of the program that works w. apk's, I dont know if winrar/7zip do...Also WiFi File Explorer is an awesome tool for these kind of things ( Mr. Bobo pointed me in the direction of this app), allows you to browse through your phone from your pc through your router/gateway, and upload back on, no need to plug anything in.
And as for your edit, Just make a folder on your SD w/ your wallpapers, and as far as i know, once you point the system to that location to pick the wallpaper I believe it makes a copy in the phones internal memory. Therefore you can delete the folder from SD card afterwards. (Not 100% sure on that one but I've noticed duplicates of some of my wallpaper from sd)

Yeah, that makes sense. Ill see about the explorer app, and do some googling for the apk editor. I like the idea of doing it on the pc better anyway. Doing stuff on the phone can make a simple task seem tedious.

Ill also look into the wallpaper thing... storing on sd and sending to system. Should audio tones work the same way?

Any advice on the persistant ringtone issue?

By the persistant ringtone issue you mean reappearing when you " think " you've deleted them?..Not really, but as far as adding/removing custom ringotnes/notification tones its /system/media/audio/ringtones or /notifications, there's also a /ui folder in there for all your standard keypress, cameraclick, bootsound, lowbattery alert, and you can replace these by just moving your own.mp3 but renaming it exactly how the stock one was named this will definately remove the old one.

Ive seen the UI folder in there, but im not trying to change system sounds yet, but ill keep that in mind for down the road. I still havent gotten a chance to mess with this any more since last time, but ill keep you posted on what i fugure out.
