Root [Boost Mobile] Working ROMS/MODS/KERNELS/MODEMS/ECT for the Boost S3

Well, part of me really wants to stick with TWRP since it could still accept stock/standard requests and factory scripts. Not to mention its factory wipe helped solve my voicemail problem :)

Use version 2.6.3.0, this is the next to most recent version as of this writing. Worked flawlessly for me prior to my switch to Philz. Both are awesome recoveries, can't stand regular CWM, but that's just my opinion. Version 2.6.3.1 won't mount anything after pushing via Odin on my phone, I know others have experienced this as well. Haven't tried TWRP for JD's ROM but past experience makes me very sure it should work. Only problem with that version of TWRP is it won't flash most of the custom 4.4 builds available at the moment. There are .zip files for both TWRP and Philz that I keep on my SD card for easy flashing and changing on the fly between the two if I feel the need.

I'm on the newest build of twrp and I have been able to flash both jds rom and static power which comes with root they both are awesome especially jds rom flashing root isn't a big deal the op says use phils because twrp can be unstable and sometimes not flash items correctly but I haven't encountered that problem

But if you just like to go to moar and want to remove that annoying update notification

That's just it... where do I get the latest build of TWRP that would work on this phone and allow me to access the SD card? Going to TWRP's site, the only boost mobile phone they list is the HTC One SV... irritatingly, the phone I previously had, that could talk to my DS before it broke... and the whole reason I'm even considering flashing a different rom in the first place, hoping it would solve this shit. :(

Also, HiiPowers, your xda link is regrettably broken. It 404's on me.

Boost and VM use d2spr which is the Sprint version. Techerrata Downloads - Browsing d2spr

Thanks for that. I really hate to sound like a pest, but this is the first time that I actually flashed a whole complete rom on a phone, and I certainly want to be able to recover/be ready in case I have to undo anything here. I just hope that doing this actually solves this whole frustrating ordeal with tethering. :(

Strange works for me? Would anyone else check the link I just want to confirm its broken.... But Just go to the moar thread and look through the last 2 or 3 pages I could upload it to dropbox if you like
The only thing the zip does is change your build number so it tricks the phone into thinking you updated even though you haven't

That's what the forms are for questions it's alright just don't panic we wouldn't lead you or anyone else wrong no one wants a brick especially one as expensive as the s3

Ditto what Hiiipowers said, those of us who know things or have learned the hard way are here to help and share our experiences! Always better to be safe than sorry instead of just jumping in blindly, so you are on the right track. As a side note, I am on VM, but have benefitted from the Boost forum as well, since we are on the same device just different carriers. Always looking to expand my knowledge base!

Well,

I finally did it. I flashed my phone with MOAR 6.0.

The good news is that at least once I headed out and tried it, the hotspot feature did allow me to get 4G, and have the hotspot functional for my (3)DS. The phone seems to think it is a sprint model though. I take it flashing the MK5 modem would help fix that?

So yes, the good news is that thankfully it appears that tethering is working. The odd news is that frustratingly my text messages are all gone, and the backup that I had running automaticallly with SMS Backup & Restore was sadly corrupted and unrecoverable. The ugly news right now, is that as it stands now, the Voicemail app still fails to update correctly.

Btw, how do I get the multi-window from stock back on MOAR? I rather appreciated that feature.

Great news and modems don't really matter flash whichever one you want... The phone thinks it's sprint because that's what the Rom is based on sprint tw software not boost but it's the same phone so that doesn't matter as far as mulit Window
If it's enabled in settings which it should be hold down the back button

I did try holding the back button, to bring up the little tab that I would expect for Multi-Window. However, it does not show up now when running MOAR. At least the extended battery that I have installed on the phone should be appropriately conditioned by now to handle all this stuff. MOAR seems to run the battery harder than the stock rom, from what I noticed. I'd usually be into the first full day of running, yet according to the battery settings, it's already down to 80% battery after just four hours... which doesn't make any sense. :(

Since I lost all my txt messages anyway, I suppose there's no harm in trying to flash JD's 4.3 at this point, is there?

Another thing I noticed after trying it now... 3DMark will actually finish on this phone now, whereas it always failed to when running stock w/ root. I wonder why? If anything I'm a bit disappointed with the performance score.

code there is nothing wrong with your multi window. go into settings/display and turn it on then the back button works. as far as battery life different kernals and govs give different results.

For the voicemail app, try using Titanium Backup and wiping the apps data. Reboot the phone and give it time to boot up completely. Then do a profile update and try updating the voicemail app. You will also want to update the Samsung push service app. My voicemail didn't start working properly and showing my messages until I did that for some reason.

I'm running Wicked Sensations but these same steps should work for you. Hope this helps.

Ruh Roh...

So I followed the basic steps here, along with those on the xda thread to use jd's 4.3. Admittedly did like the interface improvements... but once again, disappointed that the tethering wouldn't work on it.

So I went back into TWRP recovery mode, and followed the steps to go back to MOAR.

When I should be booting up... it is just showing the S3 boot screen, and won't progress further.

Help!

*update* Okay, that was a close one.

Went back to TWRP, wiped dalvik, cache and system. Reinstalled MOAR and seems I got some progress again. However, I am now somewhat convinced that MOAR will require some (re)calibration, if it honestly think it burned through my battery that quickly.

*update 2* Thanks for the tip there, biker. Seems this time around, the voicemail app updated no problem.

Also in case anyone like me also liked the multi-window and wanted it, for some reason un-ticking and re-checking the multi-window option brought back the little tab for it for me. Just sharing in case anyone else is like "where the *expletive* is it?" :)

Do you have a link to the zip for TWRP? I have the flashable zip for Philz, which I am now using, but not TWRP. Philz is pretty sweet but a way to switch back to TWRP if needed real fast sounds nice.

That's great news I didn't even know you where in vm I just see you helping out and answering just about every question before I do most of the times good news to know where unified because I remember when if you where in a different carrier and posted on a different form those people ignored you or just plain told you to go post in your thread section no answer or help

You're welcome. Glad it's working for you. Make sure you test it and are getting your voicemail. As I mentioned earlier, I didn't get voicemail notifications until I updated the Samsung push app. I wasn't getting any and then I updated the Samsung push app rebooted and 3 voicemails popped up. LOL.

Just want to make sure you're getting them.

I agree 100 %. All help when it comes to compatible phones is always welcome IMO. There more help in here, the better off we all are. :)

Yep. There are posts in the MOAR thread that tell you how to stop the notification. If I'm not mistaken, I think someone has posted the link in this thread too. You may want to read back a page or 2. ;) If not, you can get it from the MOAR thread.

UPDATE-

ADDED LINK TO STRUCK'S THREAD FOR INFO ON CM11 NIGHTLIES AND HIS PERSONAL DEBLOATED CM11 ROM.

ADDED [ROM] [4.3] Slim Bean (d2spr) by nicklovell23

BOTH ADDED TO "AOSP, CyanogenMod, and AOKP ROMs" SECTION.

Thanks go out to Capn069 for recommending the newest Slim Bean. He says he has 4G working so if you have questions regarding that, please ask him. As I've mention, I do not have 4G in my area so I am unable to test it. :(

I would also like to thank Struckn for helping verify my MMS on Slim Bean. I appreciate your help with testing it bro.

Bed time!!!! Enjoy fellas!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D

Yup. I learned a long time ago that it always helps to read from the last post I read in the thread to the newest when I've missed a few days. That way I get caught up and don't miss anything. That's the reason I knew it was in here somewhere. LOL. I was busy testing Slim Bean last night or I would have helped him find it. It's not that far back because I remember it being posted not long ago.

People are starting to get pissed when people ask about it too because the question and link have been posted so many times. You know how it can get over there though. We here at Android Forums are a little more forgiving than the guys at XDA. lol. :D:D

As for this Slim Bean ROM, this baby is nice! I'm glad I took Capn069 's advice and try it. :D
