Root [Boost Mobile] Working ROMS/MODS/KERNELS/MODEMS/ECT for the Boost S3

Tested the option in Philz to root NDC and it works great. A few less clicks than flashing the zip.

I also tried out TowelRoot. This also worked. This is the simplest One Click Root method since interdpth and Shabbypenguin's exploit for the Prevail. Even simpler since it is an APK. It is a great solution for someone who wants root but does not care about a custom recovery. There really are people like that. Lol.

In both cases, I updated the binary in Supersu with no problems. I could not get the Disable Knox option to work, but I might not have waited long enough.

Flashed jdsingles NDC Rooted Stock. Nice. He really has done a lot of work to Make sure that we get access to Rooted Samsung updates almost immediately after the OTA hits.

If I do run TW 4.4.2, it will be Wicked-X, Beautiful!

So what's the word regarding the performance of the NDC/ND8 modem?

I know for me the dealbreaker has long been how knox obnoxiously basically wants to void your warranty and flag it as such as soon as you root, which is irritating because a lot of the apps I keep on my phone require root to operate at all. Does this still happen even if you use a knox-free ROM? Or one that has integrated root?

You can use TowelRoot to root without tripping Knox. I think. I know that once you flash a custom recovery you trip Knox.

I had the same opinion as you but I finally decided to embrace our Knox Overlords. I flashed Philz Recovery and my phone will never be the same. Lol.

I still have no opinion on the new radio reception. It is at least as good as it was before at my house. I will test out in the wide world of LTE next Monday.

I like the looks of Wicked-X and I think that the stock radio might be a little better on NDC than in was on MK3.

For right now, I am still running LiquidSmooth and loving it.

Well I finally decided to go with 4.4 and put the ole knox on.

I'm not rooted (yet) but in time I will be. Right now I am stock 4.4 android and got everything installed and so far I am pleasantly surprised at the performance and speed so far. Maybe it's just a placebo affect but things just seem snappier and smoother for some reason.

I'm hoping this will stay this way and things will continue to be snappy and smooth, but we'll have ta see how it goes.

So wait... if I have philz now and flash ND8, I lose Philz?
Yep. When you flash the ND8 tar, it sets you to complete stock, including the stock recovery.

You can then flash a Philz tar to get custom recovery back. That is what trips the Warranty bit.

Glad you got it flashed ok and are up and running. Even better to hear that you're getting some 4g with NDC.:D

Crap like this makes me not want to ever run touchwiz again. Check this post out:

During the call to Boost customer Service, I wanted to know what programs I could remove that were using data in the background . The rep said "Let's take a look at what programs you have on your phone!" and started listing what was loaded, including SU and PDANet! They did not have an issue with them but suggested "make sure you disconnect AND turn off mobile data after any sessions." to save data allotment.

This phone doesn't have Carrier IQ but we're being spied on (big shock right? lol) That should be illegal. Although I guess they did check his/her apps with permission in a round about kind of way. I wonder how to break/disable that.

Bro. What do you mean? You must be talking about STOCK TouchWiz.

There's also a possibility that the Boost Zone app from the stock ROM is able to grab that info from your phone.

I seriously doubt any of the custom ROMS like Wicked-X, Conquest, MOAR, or Wicked Sensations share that information.

Yikes.... not cool...
I don't think it's tw in particular... but whatever it is we need to figure it out. BoostZone does sound possible... But whatever it is it needs to be able to be turned off or taken off the phone!!!!

Yes I meant stock.

Well, all I know is that right now, while Boost's coverage map says I should be getting strong voice and 4G LTE coverage at home, I can honestly say that as I sit here typing this, I am only getting 1/5 bars and only 3G at most. And strangely, for the blips where I do see it registering LTE, the signal strength takes a hit.

At this point I'm getting desperate enough to even deal with Knox in my bootloader, if it would restore my signal. I just don't know what to do, and I could use some advice. It's not exactly pleasant or fun changing providers, and being forced to because they let their network degrade and won't do anything about it. And at this point, I'm running out of providers I could turn to.

I know that feeling I too seen that happen to me. I just moved to T-Mobile. I'm gettin 4/5 bars constant. And always have lte at home. I hope it works for you this town has Sprint spark too.was not Impressed

Well, I can't believe it, but I really like TouchWiz with Wicked-X. This is a great Rom. I am getting good results from NDC radios too. bluetooth seems less jittery. WiFi is strong. The data modem latches in to LTE better. I need to call Boost because I do indeed live in a no man's land for LTE. A mile on either side of my house is great. I got the fastest LTE I have ever seen yesterday morning a mile down the road.

BTW, speedtest.net uses a lot of data. The faster your connection the more it uses.

WOW!!!! That's some blazing speed bro!!!

Glad you are liking 4.4.2 & Wicked-X.

UPDATE on the green theme.....

it still needs some tweaking. I've tried some of the apps and fonts cannot be seen due to the green font and green background. I'm sure he'll get it worked out soon. The PCB Blue theme is working great though. If you want a blue theme, PCB Blue is the way to go. A lot of mods to go with it too!

Have a great day everyone! :)

To update everyone we all know I'm a stock android aosp lover so

Liquid smooth updated to 4.4.4 it's running beautiful I'm on the build from the 28th no signal issues either actually I haven't had one dropped call which is funny same goes for omni rom

Just for anyone who was wondering I'll probably be going back to tw though maybe it all depends since wicked x is so nice it makes it kinda a tough decision

I am the same. But wicked x is really rockin it!

I downloaded the newest LiquidSmooth using LTE yesterday. Today I got the newest AICP, Carbon and Cyanogen because I hit some decent WiFi. I don't plan to look at them until this weekend.

Wicked-X is running great. I have been impressed with the battery life too. Not a problem anyway since I use the Zerolemon, but considering the three roms, and multimegabytes of podcasts that I downloaded today, it is especially impressive.

I also got the Conquest Singularity Rom ready to try out. Nice long weekend coming up.

Just outta curiosity, is anyone working on an s5 type Rom for the s3?

To my knowledge they have already rooted the s5, so should have an image to work from at least.
