Root [Boost Mobile] zte n860 on straight talk?

Ominous

Newbie
Noob here (I have only rooted one phone and that was a few years ago) anyway, does anyone know if there is a way to unlock this phone and change the carrier to straight talk? I bought this phone in a pawn shop for $25. , then found it to be an Obamaphone (which is still active) but obviously the data has been blocked and I cannot get the prl from the carrier as I am not the original owner who got the phone. So therefor I cannot get rid of the mip error 67 either. So I would like to at least get this thing reactivated under boost instead of american assistance wireless lifeline a.k.a. Obamaservice.

Thanks in advance;
Ominous

That is something that has to be discussed with the carrier, because of a law passed making unlocking phones ourselves illegal. So I don't think we can help you there :(

Anyways, welcome to AndroidForums Ominous! :D
We'll be happy to help you with anything else that doesn't violate the Site Rules/Guidelines :) Not saying you're gonna break any rules, but its a precaution since there were some things in there I didn't know when I joined. Better safe than sorry :D

Thanks Skinnyjeans21 the carrier told me that I would have to wait 3 months before they deactivated the contract and then I may not even be able to get it activated through boost even though it is a boost phone/obamaphone. But on the other note they did say I could just continue to use the free minutes every month basically forever lol, but that would make me feel like a crook in some weird way. Oh and thank you for the welcome.

Free minutes!? Lucky... :D

lucky yes but no data unless on wifi, I wanted a data capable phone so I could stream pandora and such via BT to my car stereo. Oh well I get 250 min and 250 texts a month, guess I will just have to fill a sd card with music and stream it that way lol.

P.S. in my original post I said that I needed the prl code, I meant the msl code, also I was wondering if I do a factory reset using the dialler code maybe I could get it activated by boost.

No, a factory reset only wipes user data. Besides, you can reset through recovery too, so finding the msl isn't necessary for that.

I'm not sure, but at one point they only allowed you to bring GSM phones.
Such as AT&T or T-mobile if it's locked, but all unlocked GSM phones will work regardless. Just buy a Sim card and pop it in.

If you have an N860, it's a CDMA phone, which they may not have a registered MEID in their database to activate. But they may have exceptions now. Check their FAQ page. Try this link Welcome | Straight Talk
Enter your info and they will tell you if can bring this phone over to them.

Smartmanvartan thank you it helped get rid of the mip error code but here is the weird part this phone is a boost phone serviced by american assistance wireless lifeline yet the msl code is a metro pcs code lol weird isn't it. Thanks to everyone who helped.

It's not so much that the msl is a metro pcs... but that zte uses the same algorithm to calculate default msl...I have the warp in Canada with public mobile abd it works just as well for me...;)

:dancing2::dancing2::dancing2: Update, the phone no longer has service since updating the msl code so I think now I can get it activated through boost or hopefully through straight talk. Thanks again for all your help guys.

latest update lol (I laugh now since it has been a week) I totally screwed myself by changing the msl code and now Boost tells me that the phones s/n still shows ownership even though when you use the dialer code there is no phone number so now I just have a glorified MP3 player "meh" oh well. thanks for all your help guys and if there are any other suggestions I will be watching.
