Root Boot Animation Question

Hey, Devs. Question for you folks. Basically, what I want to do, is make a boot animation. I know certain things that I need, but what I really want to know is this:

Some ROMs have a bootanimation.zip in /system/customize/resource, and some have it in /system/media

Which is correct? :< I tried putting a boot animation in /system/customize/resource, and it worked for about 5 frames, then white screen...Phone still booted...So I THINK it needs to go in /system/media...

What do you think?

Does it vary from sense based vs non-sense based?
 
Hey prinny, I don't have your device but I assume its like other HTC devices I've owned. Hopefully this will give you something to go on until someone else with the device can chime in.

Sense and non-sense roms will have it different places. Basically you'll just want to replace wherever your Rom has the stock one and rename it to the stock animation

let me do some digging, I think there are automated tools that'll do it for you

it does vary on sense vs nonsense... sense has it in system/customize/resource and nonsense has it in system/media...
not sure what happened with your animation though... mind sharing the file...
 
I'll have to upload it in a few minutes, but that's what I figured was it varied. It's just weird, that I put it in a sense rom in /system/customize/resource and it failed...maybe it's just my files corrupt somehow. That's my luck, lately.

I'm going to try ripping a bootanimation.zip out of another ROM, and we'll see.

yeah... seems like a file prob cause you mentioned that it did start the animation but failed midway
 
Download link seems to be down. Hmm. I think what I'll do is just flash the ROM again, find the bootanimation.zip, and try to copy it over again...Not sure what I'm doing wrong, but I'll get it eventually.

Ahh poo, didnt even think to try that. I just remembered that tool from my OG EVO days.

I may still have it in my dropbox.
 
I found it on the second...maybe 3rd page. Maybe I shouldn't be so lazy >.>

I'm going to try it, and report back!
 
so far, only using sense based roms, mine have been in the resource folder. i had to rename to SPC_bootanimation.zip also as i remember, but i guess it differs based on rom setups
