Any way to turn the volume down a notch on the boot animation? Is it connected maybe with notification volume or one of the others?

Settings>Sound settings>Volume>System volume
You will want to turn the System volume down and that will do the trick.

Thanks. It's for my wife's new phone. I'm sure I'd never hear the end of it if "droid" is blasting from it every time she turns it on.
