ROM ToolBox makes replacing the boot animation simple and it also has a lot to choose from (users can also install their own). Alternately, installing without said app is pretty straight forward.
I have the Galaxy Nexus boot animation; if you use the app though, changing the resolution of the animation is accomplished in a few simple taps. I use it for simplicity.
Be warned: if you do go the way of an app such as ROM ToolBox, some features of the app may cause you to loose data (such as hitting reboot recovery; personally, guilty) and the system/app tweaks.
