Root Boot loop HELP

Klauven

Member
I installed droid 2 bootstrap, installed stage 1 of the GB install, stage 2 failed, I rebooted, and now am stuck in a boot loop!!!! I have tried home search, tried battery pull power button from stock, cant get anything to work.

I'm afraid you're looking at an sbf. You could try to power off and get into stock recovery then delete data and cache. But I doubt that'll help.

A. I was using RSD Lite 2.6 on a Win 7 64 bit machine
B. I was using lower versions of sbfs than 2.3.340

Both are downloading as we speak.

Summary of what I did...

I first downloaded Droid X bootstrapper
I then downloaded Droid 2 bootstrapper because I read you needed that one to install GB roms
I booted into recovery, made a backup and rebooted
I booted into recovery, installed 1st .zip successfully, 2nd .zip failed, I rebooted and found myself in boot loop
I tried all boot into clockwork tricks I could fine
I tried flashing 3 different SBFs, all failed

The two files above should get you to where you want to be. I think you may have put the cart before the horse. You must sbf to 2.3.340 before you can flash those three files. So do the sbf, root your phone, and then go install the 3 files in CWM.

Ok. So after the sbf flash worked, I rooted again, installed Droid 2 bootloader, installed that, rebooted into recovery and tried installing the 3 files again. Once again, it failed on 2 and I have to use RSD lite to recover again. What am I doing wrong?

I have had the Droid 1 for over a year and have switched to dozens of different ROMs without a problem, this Droid X sure is a tricky one. I thought I would maybe just give up on GB and go with a custom Froyo ROM. I picked Simply Stunning and installed it and it worked, except no radio. I could not get any 2G, 3G or voice signals. I tried restoring with the nandroid backup I made when it was stock and still no radio. I had to flash the sbf a 3rd time.

I will re-download the 2nd install file, pay close attention to the md5 and try again tonight.

Thanks for all the help everyone, very responsive community you got here for the droid X.

Here's a thought. If you are using Droid 2 Bootstrap, you *must* have USB Debugging enabled for it to work properly. There are differing opinions on whether to used Droid X Bootstrap or Droid 2 Bootstrap, and it seems to revolve around USB Debugging. I'm not a tech expert by any means, but I can tell you that I've used both bootstraps successfully - but only with the proper formula: Droid X Bootstrap = USB Debugging OFF, while Droid 2 Bootstrap = USB Debugging ON.

I'm not sure if this has anything to do with your problem, but thought I'd throw it out there for comments.

If he were using Droid X Bootstrap without debugging, then he simply would not be able to boot into CWM. Of course we know that D2 Bootstrap will work fine.

Sheeesh this is tough. I finally got all 3 steps to install, then I installed broodcomb 2. The rom appears to work great accept it reboots every time I try to install anything from the app store.

Jeeze, so now I tried to SBF back to 2.3.340, Passed, then on reboot still had the broodcomb splash screen and was stuck on it for 10 minutes, never booted

If you're talking about a Gingerbread rom on the Droid X, I am currently running Liberty GB v.4 and I *always* boot into CW Recovery through Droid X Bootstrap, with USB debugging off. Do it numerous times each week, without a hitch. I was trying to clarify a point for the earlier poster, and as I've said many times, I'm no tech expert, so if the way I do things on my DX doesn't work for other people, I apologize up front.

For my phone, Honest-To-God, I use Droid X Bootstrap with USB debugging turned off - and it works! :)

Hey Mike,
Don't be offended by my post. It wasn't meant to belittle you or question your experience. I try not to do that. I just wanted to add that you will know that you are using Droid X Bootstrap wrong if you can't reboot into CWM. There are enough of us with knowledge in here that we can compliment each other's posts. I have folks come behind me to clean up info all the time. It's a great way to become an expert. ;):)

Hey, no offense taken! :):) I was anxious to be clear that I've used both bootstrappers with equal success, using the Off/On formula I listed in the earlier post. I'm essentially an end user, with no formal training - but I've become pretty proficient at rooting, installing roms & themes and generally tinkering with these phones (I have 3 different android phones). That being said, I am perfectly capable of overlooking the obvious, and have had to sbf as recently as Easter weekend, so I tend to offer advice with caution and qualifications ("Well it worked for me, but YMMV"). I am in a constant state of learning new things, and that's why these forums are so cool - the Peer To Peer help.

+1 me for everything you said. When I got my X back in December, I thought that I had perma-bricked it. Was stuck in the bootloader with an error. A couple of days later, the full 2.3.340 sbf came out. I've learned so much since then.

I registered on the forums just to thank you guys. I had been running the leaked version of gingerbread and that really screwed up the rom process. After finally getting everything to almost working status, I got caught in this loop. Restoring it to a stock version not only got it working but it also unrooted it, which I have been trying to do for awhile! Cant wait to root it on a normal version of android now. Thanks again :D
