Root Boot Loop

chvck

Lurker
rooted my evo v, did not s-off, flashed deodex, worked just fine. shortly after, flashed midnight and have been stuck in boot loop since. tried flashing stock kernels, the updated miui rom, harmonia rom, PG86IMG.zip, and have slowly slipped into a boderline psychosis with frustration. any help would be greatly appreciated. GREATLY.

hboot v1.57
twrp v1.1.1

also to elaborate a bit more on my predicament, it will reboot usually after the initial HTC boot screen logo disappears and the build logo has been up for 1-2 second.

ive full wiped before trying to flash everytime. thx for the suggestion tho.
midnight was v 1.4.9

how can i install 4ext from twrp?

Are you still struggling with this? It is best to provide links to what you've done (i.e. which ROM you flashed before your issue was created, "stock kernels", "updated miui rom", and "PG86IMG.zip").

All of those things are ambiguous, and are not clearly defined.

The problem is that you've most likely tried to flash ROMs that require S-OFF, and you definitely shouldn't be flashing anything named PG86IMG.zip with S-ON.

That said, I have a guide that will help you. You'll need to get into the bootloader (pull the phone's battery out, plug your phone into the computer with the USB cable, replace the battery, wait for the red light to come on, press and hold the volume-down button, and then press the power button). For the things you're trying to flash you want (need) S-OFF.

My guide will get you there. Follow every step to the letter, including the preliminary steps. If you have problems with the instructions, post your problems there.

@step 3 of preliminary steps.

cmd says:

C:\sdk-tools>fastboot oem lock
< waiting for device >

im currently in bootloader. tried running the command from recovery too.

thanks again for your help btw.

are you in fastboot within the bootloader?

You have to select fastboot from the bootloader and when you connect to the computer it should change to fastboot usb, then try running the command.

Hmm. You've used Fast boot before for recovery and whatnot. Sounds like you're just in the Bootloader. You need to navigate with volume keys to Fastboot and then hit the power button on the phone to access it. You should then hear your computer beep like you plugged it in normally. It should then continue with the command. :D But remember, after you lock the Bootloader you won't be able to use Fastboot commands. Have you installed the newest OTA before you rooted tho? Apparently if you have done the newest OTA before getting S-OFF there is a chance that you won't be able to get S-OFF anymore.

correction on my last, cmd worked.

shootervmruu wouldnt unzip the first time i downloaded it. trying it again.

Good, glad it worked for you. Now if you follow the S-OFF procedure & the "fix everything" (in the same thread) you'll be ready to install almost any ROM you want.
