Root bootlooping after flashing cm10 (vm evo)

after rooting my phone by following the newbie guide i decided to try to do s-off. i finally got s-off and got my phone booted into the new hboot that it installed. i saw that cm10 required you to not be on hboot 1.57 so i installed the new hboot that was in the "fix everything" thread at the top. after installing the new hboot (1.04) i went to flash cm10. after flashing cm10 all i get is a bootloop.

now i was stupid enough to not back up my sdcard before doing s-off and having it wipe it so i don't have the backups that i made from the recovery. i tried installing the odex stock rom, but it didn't help. i'm still stuck in a bootloop.

any suggestions on what i could do or is my phone effed?

edit: well, i tried flashing the mobsterz rom and it worked. i still would like cm10. can anyone help me with that?

Make a Backup now that you're running Mobster. If you can flash Mobster, there's no reason why you shouldn't be able to flash JMZ's odex stock. As for your problem with CM10, which one are you going with? Wild for the Night?

Which recovery are you using? What sort of wipe are you doing before you install? Make sure you wipe EVERYTHING except the SD card.

ah, right sorry. i flashed wild for the night.

i'm using the recovery that it tells you to install in the complete noobie guide. TWP 1.1.1? think that's what it is. i did the wiping options under the flash zips menu. wiping cache and the dalvik. i also tried doing the factory reset when trying to flash wild for the night.

You should consider switching to 4EXT. At least when you do a full wipe in that recovery, I know that we're on the same page. I haven't used TWRP except for like 5 miunutes...long enough to get on 4EXT. I am sure you can wipe fully with TWRP, it's just that with 4EXT, there is a single click and everything is gone, and they really mean it (inside joke, install 4EXT if you want to understand ;))

I know the end result of that wipe, I don't really know about TWRP. Maybe someone else with TWRP experience can chime in just to be sure we're wiping properly.

mb try wipe everything. wipe everything means wipe cache, dalvik cache, system, cache, data. if that doesnt do it mb try 4EXT recovery.

i have TWRP 1.1.1 and don't have any issue. since ur s-off i don't think its the recovery thats causing the bootloop, but again when things don't work TWRP always takes the blame

well i went ahead and installed 4ext anyway. made a full backup of my current rom and everything and put it on my computer. should i wipe everything in 4ext and then try to install wild for the night again? how would i get back into the new recovery if i'm stuck in a bootloop again?

Practice getting into the bootloader now. A boot loop is usually a problem with the ROM. As long as your bootloader is intact, you can always recover.

Pull the battery then replace it, then hold volume - and power at the same time. Should boot to the bootloader. Then scroll down to recovery, and BAM, you're in 4EXT. Did you make the backup from your 4EXT recovery? If so, you should know how to get into recovery...or were you able to reboot the phone into recovery? that's like a shortcut, but usually only an option on a custom ROM.

When you decide to wipe, look down a bit, there is an option to wipe all except the SD card.

Also, I forgot to mention, your old recovery is gone, so you don't have to worry about how to get into 4EXT vs getting into TWRP.

i backed everything inside the app on the phone. i can get into bootloader fine and do the recovery through that too. before whenever i clicked on recovery it would just load up hboot again, but it's not doing it anymore so i guess that's fine. i'm on hboot 1.04, is that an ok hboot to be on when installing wild for the night?

edit: well, i wiped everything in 4ext and installed wild for the night just fine, thanks for the help guys.

edit2: nm

Glad it worked out for you. I am a bit old school when it comes to recoveries. I don't do anything from the app, I boot into recovery directly. I forgot you could do it that way, and that's part of what makes 4ext special.
