Help Bought an Inspire. Not Impressed with Android AT ALL

I agree with the original poster. Android BLOWS! I've been putting it through the paces for a few weeks now. In terms of customization and user friendliness, my Windows Mobile 6.5 (running Wisbar Advance Desktop) was WAAAAYYYYY better. You could do ANYTHING with it.. individual sounds for anything you want (any button, function, notifier, etc), status icons and unread message counters, you could make your own buttons and sounds.. The only thing android has going for it over my old Windows Mobile are the apps you can put on your phone (which have absolutely nothing to do with the phones themselves). Other than that, it just blows. I mean, I've been spending weeks just trying to do the simplest things with it.. like, getting unread message counters for SMS, missed phone calls, and emails to show me how many messages I have waiting. Seriously, you don't even know if you have a missed call or not, without opening the dialer to look, or if you have a voicemail or text waiting without actually opening them (or, by enabling text pop-ups). It's ridiculous. I'm not impressed by it at all. Battery life? Horrible. "Oh, just turn THIS off, and THAT off, and THIS off, and THAT off, go HERE and THERE, and change the setting from THIS to THAT, etc", until basically, you can't use the phone for anything anymore.. because everything has to be off. Just awful.

Both the sms and email widgets on sense show you how many texts or emails you have at the bottom of the widget.
Or get the sms unread count app (free) and you can see the count for emails, texts and calls.
As for battery life mine is just fine and I use my phone ALL DAY long (unplugged this morning at 3am and im at 75%) Didnt tweak anything.

I don't know anyone who assumes their car will run on diesel truck fuel. They all use gasoline.

So why would anyone assume Android is the same as iOS?

It's a very accurate analogy. Why? Because the two fuels are completely different, as are Android and iOS.

When I read about how bad Android is, immediately I know that the person has failed to make an effort to educate themselves about Android.

Why people are so quick to condemn Android is usually because they are coming from the ultra simplistic iPhone and expect their Android phone to be the same. Make No Mistake, I'm NOT bashing the iPhone 4, I have one myself.

That said, I greatly prefer my Android phones for many reasons. One of the main ones is the fact that Androids are full fledged handheld computers.

If youre serious about your personal growth and tech education, study Android. You'll get the most from your phone, and be amazed at it's usefulness.

REALLY!!? You do know that the status bar says you have a text or email or missed call? Everyone that comes from ios expects it to be just like that. Do you expect a mac to be the same as linux or windows? NO! Get over it.

Serious?

I came from a iPhone 3gs, and it made me realize, after getting the Inspire, the Iphone is a lazy phone. It holds your hand through everything. I love Android and will never own a iphone again, it doesn't bring the challenge a Android phone does. A little extra work, brings huge rewards, with this phone. Give it a try for a few more weeks, and I bet you'll be hooked!

ADW.Notifier solves that problem. It puts the unread count on certain things (email, sms, etc.)

Just the opposite here.

I went from Captivate to Inspire to a white iPhone 4. (Inspire was a fine phone, but I experienced some build-quality issues. My first phone had volume rocker that was iffy and the subsequent replacements had stuck pixel/ dust between the glass and the LCD. Also who designed the battery cover? Why couldn't HTC just use Evo, Thunderbolt or HD7 style back cover?)

Anyway, on the iPhone I find myself looking for BACK and MENU button a lot. They come in so handy in so many situations. Also, notification system on iPhone sucks. Having to unlock the phone just to see if there are any emails or voice mails awaiting is just lame in 2011.

I plan on using this iPhone 4 until hopefully HTC Sensation makes it to AT&T. IMHO, Android 2.2 is lightyears ahead of iOS 4.3.
