Well, I can't return it unfortunately, because I got it through an insurance claim. I am stuck with it. I wish I would have gotten the motion instead of claiming my insurance.
Is there any way to root it currently? If there isn't, is there anyone working on a new root method for it?
I am prepared to do quite a bit of footwork to get it done, so if there is a method out there that you currently know of, no matter how complex, I am game.
Currently the only custom rom built with a vv5 base is Ldrifta's Number 2 v2.0 http://androidforums.com/connect-4g-all-things-root/579097-rom-ms840-number_two-v1-8-zva.html(don't worry about the title)
but bluetooth doesn't work(everything else does, and I higly recomend this rom); so you may want to root, debloat, and enjoy your stock/rooted rom. All in all it's a pretty decent phone(not that you couldn't get a better one for the same or less $) especially with the latest firmware and the Metro/T-Mobile merger.
And I may be wrong, but I don't believe any of the other rom's or kernels in the all thing root sticky will "work" with vv5 firmware.
