Root Bought rooted nook color, please help

Hello everyone,

I just bought a nookcolor that appears to be rooted internally with phiremod, My question is can I unroot it so I can obtain root through the micro SD card? that way I can use it as a reader and a tablet when ever I want to use one or the other. Thanks for any help and if it is possible to unroot can you point me to some ease instructions? :) thanks again.

Personally I'd leave it rooted as is, if you feel that you want the stock Nook setup as an option, *I* would set it up to run off the SD card using AmazingDave's method here.http://androidforums.com/nookcolor-all-things-root/360885-booting-stock-nook-software-sd.html
You can always install reader software on the 'tablet' and use it to read books, you don't HAVE to have the stock Nook setup to do that. I like Aldiko (and use), with Moon+ being a close second.

Is it possible to flash another rom like on the EVO? i have rom manager on it just not sure how to use, and also if I put another SD card in it with a diferent rom will it bot from that instead? sorry for all the questions, and thank you for the help.

To my knowledge you have a choice of Phiremod, CM7 and a honeycomb ROM (I don't recall the name).
Phiremod is a themed CM7, and from all accounts HC is not really ready to be a daily driver.
You could try CM7 to see if you like it better than Phiremod (be sure and do a backup in ROM Manager before you do that - that way you'll have a known good fall back in case things go wrong).

Yes, you can boot to a different ROM of a properly setup SD card. There is a 'how to' in the sticky in the top of this section.

cm7 is my personal favorite as well, used to be a phiremod, but i have converted to the true cm7...

how is cm7 better than phiremod? I'm running phiremod at the moment and don't want to change over to the pure cm7 until I know the advantages. I'm loving my rooted phiremod nc.

When it comes to ROMs (and many other things) 'better' is VERY subjective.
If you really like what you've got, leave it alone.
If you want to take an hour and try something different, then backup your current ROM and load up CM7. If you hate CM7 you can always restore and be right back to where you were, but just a little bit wiser.

  • Phiremod 6.3 (Feb 14) is based on CM7.03 stable with older kernel
  • Phiremod Test (May 29) is based on nightly build of CM7.1 with updated kernel that provides better battery life when sleeping.
  • CM7.1 RC1 (Jun 27) is latest nearly stable version. RC1= first release candidate for 7.1 stable. Several people are running this with little to no problems.

We have no idea when CM 7.1 stable will be released but it should be soon. I heard Dalingrin was working on incorporating his latest kernel into CM7.1 so maybe stable will come after that.

Possible problem with new kernel is SOD (sleep of death) where the NC doesn't want to wake up and you have to hold down the power button for 6 or 7 seconds to power it down, then turn it on again. I've only had this issue once in the last 3 or 4 weeks.

I've been having SoD issues frequently with 7.1 and 6-30 kernel. :-(

This new Nook hasn't had any premature battery death (PBD as I've seen it referred to) issues however, after calibration it ran right down to 0% and had enough charge to run its shutdown routine. IIRC my first Nook crapped out around 3%, that 3% was about 13 minutes of music and a youtube vid.
