Boxwave vs. XO Skins

Never really liked BoxWave. What's the point of a screen protector if the screen protector gets scratched?

XO Skins appears to be the same material (3M Scotchgard) as Zagg/BSE/PhantomSkinz/BodyGuardz/etc.

I dont think xoskins is same as zagg, I tried xoskin first and got rid of it cuz i didnt like the feel, then bought zagg at bestbuy. at least xokin was clear, zagg has orange feel all over it.

Well, my XO skin arrived when I was out of town for the holidays. I was excited to toss it on tonight. Turned on the shower, steamed the heck out of my bathroom, worked out almost all of the bubbles....and noticed two half-inch long scratches on the screen...

So, either my skin arrived scratched or I managed to scratch the skin with the application card...neither of which is acceptable.

Either way, I'm pretty pissed right now.

that scratch will come out with some more effort, if it hasn't by itself already since you posted. First of all, put away the little plastic card that came with it, you are done using it now. Get a good very fine weave microfibre cloth, one a bit thicker than the one that came with the Xoskin pack. You may as well pull the battery on the phone and do this at the end of your day - you are going to have to not use the phone for 10 hours. Gently heat up the skin with a hairdryer on low, just get it warm. Soak a spot on the microfibre with the solution that came with it and buff the scratch. Try not to get liquid into the speaker opening. Repeat these steps every half hour until the scratch is nearly gone. Then put it away and don't touch it.
What you are doing with all this is reactivating the chemical properties of the skin to reform itself. Like glass, it is a very slow moving "liquid" and will heal itself in the right conditions. Not affiliated with any of these companies, just have had some experience with similar stuff in the lab. Good luck! (and give it at least a week to fully cure before giving up)

I bought and installed the XO skin when I bought my Gnex. Installed without a hitch (although I hated putting water on my phone). Looked good at first. I pulled it off today. I had my Dinc for 20 months and only had a screen protector on for about 15 days as well. I don't like the feel or look of it. I ended up with a few mild scratches on my Dinc screen in 20 months. I am hoping for similar results with the Gnex. I try to be covered, but I guess I'm a nudist at heart. ;)

Hi, I just installed my xo skin protector and I seem to have quite a few small bubbles and some that are sorta large, its been on about 30 minutes, will those go away overnight when it dries more or did I mess up the install?

Yes, they will go away. I installed my XO Skins 22 hours ago and my final bubble just went away within the last hour. This XO Skin is flawless. I am truly amazed how hard it is to tell there's a screen protector on the phone. I highly, highly recommend the full screen XO Skin protector.

I hope so, I've heard great things, just worried about the bubbles, seems like I left too many. Guess I'll see in the morning. I know if it can be screwed up, that I will find a way to screw it up.

haha, well, if it makes you feel any better, I applied it at 10pm last night. I woke up at 7am and it looked HORRIBLE. I thought to myself, "I definitely effed this up." Hour by hour, however, the bubbles slowly went away and by the afternoon I was down to two. By 7pm they were both gone. Yours too will go away over time.

LOL, what about the hair that I found trapped under the protector this morning, will that go away too? It is looking better this morning though.

Pretty sure the hair has officially found a new home under your XO Skin. Perhaps it's worth the $12 to give it another shot?

lmao im in exact same situation.i reordered 2nd xoskins and applied it yesterday.. and just i found a tiny hair trapped on bottom right corner (right below display).
its much better than zagg so ill be using it like this for a while.

That sux. You could try peeling it off, running it under the sink, then respraying it and laying it. I would make sure your fingers are wet though. You dont want a fingerprint on the glue side.

I did order two more, but for future reference you can pull back the protector and remove the hair with decent results I just rewet everything. I did it a few times so it doesn't look great now but the first reapply looked good. But a house with two cats and a dog and a couple of long haired females make a hairless installation difficult.

No experience with xo skins but I have a boxwave screen protector on my genx. It lifts up a bit at the top an bottom but it's not noticeable with my Incipio case on. It's supposed to be reusable so maybe I will try to re-apply. Screen clarity is great. It's better than the seidio protector I had on my og incredible. I'm very happy.

Bse are nice cus they are cheap but they have mad orange peel. I dont want to see the protector, so I went xo

Hi,

My SGN has a deep scratch (about 3 centimers long) on its screen. I can feel it when moving my nail over it.

Some people told me I could try to hide that scratch by applying a wet screen protector.

Regarding this purpose, which one is better?

Cheers

I've used a different brand for years and they are 1/2 that cost with all the quality... shipped. Interesting.

I saw a pic here also that had the area from ear speaker to sensor just completely cut to the edge (big gaping area). What's with that? Just cut the correct area and be done, don't just knife out a 1" chunk of the protector at the top! LOL

I believe the one you're referring to was the Boxwave and part of the reason I went with the XO Skins. The XO Skins has almost a perfect cutout for the speaker, camera, sensor. Except for a slight rubbery feel, the XO Skins is quite amazing.

I just installed the XO Skin on my Galaxy Nexus yesterday. I was very skeptical in my ability to have a successful wet application install. Having never done this before I felt like I was screwing up the whole time. My GNex looked pretty pathetic with a wet, bubbly, streaky piece of plastic on it for several hours. I kept trying to squeegee the small bubbles out. Then I just let it sit the rest of the day. I am absolutely shocked how the bubbles are completely gone today and how little I realize the XO Skin is there. The only real negative is I no longer have that super slick scrolling feel I had on the naked glass (...must resist R-rated comment...) but I can live with the grippier scrolling in exchange for the security I feel. If I can install this screen protector, anyone can lol!
