Following Steve Jobs' approach ("Just don't hold it that way"), Samsung has released a statement regarding the light issue on the front buttons, stating: "Just don't use the phone in the dark." Lol
Overheard at a Samsung brain storming session:

Dev 1: I have an idea for our upcoming product, the Captivate. We should make the front buttons invisible until AFTER the user needs to see them.
Dev 2: You mean they remain invisible, and the user has to blindly find the one he needs, and then after he picks one and no longer needs to see them, they become visible?
Dev 1: Exactly.
Dev 3: Brilliant! And then after that immediately make them invisible again for the next time he needs them. Eventually the users will just learn their locations and not depend on the back light at all, thus making the while back light thing on them nothing but a waste of battery.
Dev 1: And starting the next Captivate release, their will be no back light for those buttons at all.
