Brand new Ascend user, could use some help!

Hello everyone. I just got my Ascend today (first smartphone) and I was wondering what basic things should I do to optimize my phone? First thing I noticed was it was a bit slow, so what things can I disable? Also, which apps do you recommend I get? Another question I have is, is there a way to use a file manager once the phone is plugged into the computer? All I see is "Removable Disk" once it's plugged in. So I don't know how to add pictures or music. Thank you in advance! :)

For your first few questions, read through the forums and use the search function. About the file transfer, just open the removable disk like a regular drive, put your files on it. When you get done, right click on it and select eject. Then unplug the cable. Your phone should see it then. You got a great phone. I hope you enjoy it.

Also, as I recently learned. Delete txt streams. I had one that was 20k, phone started getting sluggish so one day I decided to delete that thread.. Was not easy, took awhile to fully delete but once it was gone my phone was running like a champ again.

What exactly is rooting your phone? I heard it voids the warranty.

Rooting the phone is just allowing superuser access like being an Administrator on your computer with windows. A lot of really useful apps require it. It does void your warranty but if you have to take it in you can unroot it and remove the apps and you'll be fine, or it will be to the point where they won't be able to tell.

It's all covered in the thread about rooting your phone.

Did you ever get your sd card problem figured out from your original post?
