Yeah, sometimes when I tell people who are new to the root scene that they can download right from their handet's browser, they get confused. So, that is why I mentioned the old fashioned USB method, which is a familiar thing to most people because they have been transfering media to things in that fashion for a very long time. ;)

They also get to choose where the file is put on the microSD card so finding it using a file explorer is easier. But, yes, both methods do work. :)
 
sorry to intrude BrittanyB but i am rerooting my sisters hero and need to just get clear on something :)

when done with the nandroid, and flashing the rom and gapps in recovery, if it is the first time flash, is it still recommended to clean the davik and cache and all that fun stuff before flashing??

I think you are going to confuse her, let her root first, and when nandroiding it is not needed to wipe cache and davlik, as the back up and restore already does that

Sorry guys, I was jumping around in shit, and things got a little messy, so I got a little held up. :P

I apologize for not coming back to explain what was going on. When I got my Hero out of the box, the glass over the camera was cracked. I wasn't going to sweat it but when I called Sprint about something I couldn't figure out, I asked them to document it, so that if the crack got worse and interfered with the camera I could get it fixed free of charge, since it was like that when I received it. So, they told me that they don't do that and will need to send me a new one. I was hesitant but the lady told me it'd probably be in my best interest.
So, with that happening, I couldn't do the root.
Also, because it was a replacement phone, it didn't come with an SD Card, so I had to wait till today, when I got paid to go purchase one, and I know I need the micro SD to be able to root.
I swear to God I have the worst luck with phones out of anyone I know. Who gets two phones in a week period that have issues right out of the box? I don't know if I already said it, but I had to get my pixi replaced because it wouldn't hold a charge, even with a new battery, so they sent me a new one, and the volume switch was broken, so I couldn't get it off vibrate. I got this phone 'cause I told them "Ya know I paid $300 out of pocket for this pixi, and it's been nothing but problems can you switch me to something with comparable features and same value."
So I have had to send 3 phones back to Sprint in like a 2 week period. I'm getting nervous they are gonna get mad at me. ...But like really you didn't notice broken glass or a broken volume switch?


With that being said, I won't be receiving my new phone till Monday, so the root is off till then lol

...I did download Swype on my phone, and I like it a lot, especially the feature that lets you say what you want typed for when I'm being lazy. haha

...I do have some off topic questions if any of you can help me, figure do it all in one forum lol
How do you uninstall ringtones?
How do you erase web history?
How do you change bookmarks? (I don't want some preset ones)
How do I save my contacts to the SD card, and other things so that I can free up space, I only have 68mbs left, and I only downloaded like 11apps
And lastly (sorry I know there is a lot and I'm not expecting answers to all) Has anyone heard of AppSaver, it's supposed to make it so that I can download my apps to the SD card, but I'm not sure I understand it to well.
I got it thinking that maybe if I did I wouldn't have to root (cause I am still a bit scared lol) but I'm not sure if I'm using it properly.
 
You need to call them and tell them that you need the phone to come with the SD card, and don't be scared of Sprint, they do not want to loose your business, that phone should come with the SD card and there is no reason why you should have to go out and buy one after all your grief, call Sprint and ask for Account Services and tell them to send you a SD card also. When you get your phone we will answer all your questions. ;)

Also rooting will be a no brainer once you will have used the phone for a bit and lee the lag you will be getting, you will jump to the dark side faster than you can bat an eye :D
 
Well I did call them and tell them “Hi I wasn’t sure if my phone was supposed to come with an SD card ‘cause it keeps telling me that I need it to run a lot of the features, and is alerting me up at the notifications that I need to insert it.”
That’s when the lady was like “Well where is the one from the Pixi?”
I explained to her that the Pixi never had one because of internal memory.
She then had to switch me to her supervisor, after waiting ten minutes he finally came to the phone, and told me “Because we sent you a replacement phone, you don’t get a new SD card, you need to use the one from your old phone.”
…I told him once again that the Pixi didn’t come with one, and I don’t know if he wasn’t listening or what, but he kinda talked over me, and was like “No replacement ones don’t get SD cards, you need to use the old one or buy a new one, you can do that at the store.”

…So I hung up, but when I had to call back later, to figure out how to turn my WiFi on, I mentioned it to the guy I was speaking with saying “I don’t know if I should bother bringing it up, but earlier I spoke with someone about the phone not coming with an SD card, and I’m not able to run my basic functions, I was told I need to use the one from my old phone. However, my old one didn’t come with one, I told him that, and he didn’t seem to care or understand. I’m just wondering if he had that all correct”
…So the guy looked into it, and he was like “Well when you get the phone brand new it should come with a SD card, and if your old phone didn’t come with one, I don’t see how it’s fair that we don’t provide you with one. I can’t send you one out, but I’m going to credit your account $15 so you can go buy one, and it’ll show on your next bill.”
So I got that handled and figured out how to use my WiFi which I love cause I don’t get great service here so it makes my phones internet run great.
Not sure if you guys really wanted to read all that, I’m sure you’ve both already seen that I talk a bit too much sometimes lol

Well, it wasn't shipped, I think it slipped the girls mind 'cause she had to help me set up the phone and activate it. I had to get transferred through 3 different departments to get everything sorted out.
I told them, the glass doesn't seem bad, and to not worry about sending me a new one, that I got used to this phone, and I don't really feel like switching over. The guy that I talked to was a higher up guy and told me he'd put it on file, and if something happens to the glass and it gets worse that I will be able to get it fixed for free. So they apologize then had the women who made the mistake call me beck like a half hour later and apologize herself as well, and make sure everything was sorted out. They did offer to take $20 off my bill, but I declined feeling like a bother, but the man insisted. So I guess that's good.
...Now, here is the issue, I'm wondering if any of you have this issue as well.
My boyfriend is away right now, so we talk every night on the phone, usually 3-4 hours, it's kinda insane lol, but now I'm finding when I talk for long periods of time my phone gets extreamly hot, and then when I look at the battery information it'll say
Temp 122 (highest I've seen it) Health: Over Heat
Then it'll shut off and the only way I can get it to turn on is by plugging it in.
I'll try and talk with my phone plugged in but that overheats it in a matter of minutes.
Is this normal?
 
Okay, so I made a post about this in the thread I started in the rooting section, but figured I'd post it here too 'cause that thread is a little old. I want to root but some things are making me hold back, in case there is something wrong with my phone, I don't want to void out my warranty.

...So I got this phone about a week and a half ago, it was from the insurance, as a replacement for my broken pixi, the glass in the back of the camera is cracked, and it's making me think before this phone got to me, it may have been really beaten up.
...Anyways, when I talk for a long period of time, I find that my phone gets extremely hot, to the point of it's uncomfortable to touch.
My boyfriend is away right now and we talk around 3-4hrs at a time at the end of our days. When I talk that long I'll feel it heating up, I'll open my battery app and it'll say that the temp is around 111 usually, then it'll climb steady for a bit, and then I'll check it and it'll tell me my phone is overheating, and then shortly after it shuts its self off.
The only way I can get it to turn on after that is by plugging it in, even if it has battery. This sometimes happens even when I've only talked an hour.
If I plug the phone in on the charger, and try and talk forget it, it overheats within ten minutes.
...is this a known issue? Or something serious, my pixi never did this.
 
It is normal, these phones when they came out were not meant to run on talk time for 3 to 4 hours straight at a time, the battery gets hot which is normal, I would not sweat it if it does not bother you, if it does because of the heat, then talk on the speaker phone or get a BT this way at least you can talk without feeling the heat

Additionally, posting in your old thread with additional concerns or questions is the way to go. We will be glad to help you out in either thread though.
 
I posted in your other thread as well, but the Hero likes to overheat when under a heavy load, or on a long conversation. Just get yourself a bluetooth headset, then you can plug in the phone and talk without the heat bothering you.
 
Weird. I have never had an overheating problem when talking at length on my Sprint HTC Hero. At most it got slightly warmer, but never to the point of feeling hot or cautioning me about overheating. I think it mainly happens when using voice over the 3G network because using 3G for voice or data always heats it up some.

EDIT: I merged the two threads with the same question together.
