Branded DHD

Just received my DHD from Vodafone through P4U. There is no apparent branding and I am currently using my O2 SIM in it so I guess that means it is unlock XD.

How long should I charge for first time? Should I wait for battery to run down before first charge? And can I use it while I am doing the first charge?

Sorry, my first Android phone. Could you explain how? :s

Also how do I get the new updates?

Somewhere under settings --> about for the revision. If its got a 405 in it then it's properly unbranded.

Dunno about the ota updates on the dhd I'm afraid. Try the same menu maybe...

All phones from mobiles.co.uk are always 100% unbranded and unlocked. Its one of the selling tactics they use to get people to buy from them.

They buy direct stock from manufacture and supply a sim card. They never get branded stock from a operator.

Hey, quick question... if you received an unlocked, unbranded phone, can your provider (say, Orange) still 'push' an update to your phone that will 'brand' it with their crappy stuff?

yup they certainly can unfortunately...i wanna see if my DHD tomorrow will arrive unbranded or not...

i'm in the same boat as yourself, wondering if it's branded when it arrives tomorrow, is there any way of blocking the orange virus/branding....?

heavily doubt it, unless you go down the root ive been doing with my Hero and that rooting the beggar and keep an eye on MoDaCo or XDA or using Cyanogen for the latest ROMs lol

i personally would kinda like to use the phone unrooted (purely from a warranty perspective) for a while and not try and use the games on Gtalk lol

wow, you've lost me there, i'm a total phone novice, this will be my first android, currently on a samsung i8910 hd, with no support from samsung, but hey that's a whole different topic, heres hoping everything is good tomorrow and orange don't send any nasty updates.....!!!!!!!

It can't force-install itself on my phone though, can it? Do the updates only come from our carrier, or can we get the updates from HTC themselves? I guess we'll have to watch out for the first reports of what the 2.3 updates will be like from the various providers.

i maybe wrong here but basically the major providers are responsible for the phones so they push updates to our phones (hence it always takes longer for orange, voda etc to push the latest version of android out), users who got the sim-free option get the updates from HTC...i think...lol

I debranded my HTC Desire (not HD) and after that i only got the updates from HTC. Not from T-Mobile.

Needed to keep my gold card in when doing updates though or they would fail and i would have to wipe the phone completely.
