Help Bricked Desire HD on 3 network (UK) - help please!!

The adb command "adb shell cat /sys/class/mmc_host/mmc1: */cid" isn't working, I'm getting a 'device not found' error. Strange because 'fastboot devices' is returning the serial number alright... :s

actually, thats not strange... adb is for use within the booted android OS. with the device in fastboot, you will only have use of fastboot xxx commands. no adb xxx commands will work.

this is why i asked you if you had another android phone you could borrow for the purposes of making the gold card. ;)

you can try revskills gold card tool with the sd in a card reader, but im under the impression it needs to be in a phone: How To Easily Create Gold Card For HTC Desire Without Hex Editing

i tried to use the revskills tool to create a gold card for my htc flyer, but it didnt work for some reason  i dont know if its a prollem with the sd,or something else.

unfortunately,if the tool wont it in a card reader, theres no other way(that i know of) to get the sd card CID without having a phone to find it. :(

Ah, I see...fastboot commands only. Think I still have the email with the goldcard image so should be able to just hex edit that file and try it. I take it the MMC number wouldnt change as a result of the factory reset and I wouldnt need to start the process again..? I'm not 100% sure if this number relates to the phone or the sd card... phone, right?

I have what I think is a working goldcard, I've put that RUU file on it and gone into HBOOT - as running the .exe from the PC to update doesnt work (pc doesn't see phone... well, it gives a ding when I plug it in but the software doesnt find it) - phone checks card, looked for PD98DIAG.zip and PD98DIAG.nbh and came back with 'no image' and 'wrong or no image' respectively then next time I looked the phone was off. I assume this was a dead battery so have plugged it in and restarted the process, currently waiting... am I missing some files I need or trying to update this the wrong way? and are the signs encouraging if its looking for these files?

nope... you are not doing anything wrong. your assesment of a dead batter sounds correct, and it is very reccomended to run an ruu with a full charge.

the phone looking for the files is normal hboot behavior, its simply searching the sd for files it recognizes- it does not mean you are missing any files.

hopefully when the phone is cahrged, hboot will flash the writing, stop on PD98IMG and youll see a couple of status bars as the phone unpacks and inspects the file. it should pass the main version check,so as long as youve got a good gold card, the CID check will be bypassed and it will ask you to update.

allow the update, then carefully place the phone down somewhere it can do its thing without falling and spitting out the battery(as that happening during an hboot or radio flash could permantly brick the device )

when its done,it will ask you to reboot. reboot, and immediately remove PD98IMG from the sd. :)

When I got back to the phone eventually it was back on the main HBOOT menu and is still not booting. I'm not sure where this PD98IMG.zip file is coming from, doesn't appear to be on my pc...do I need to rename something with this filename in order for it to be recognised?

Did you rename the RUU to PD98IMG.zip? Rename the RUU, put it in the root of your SDCard (not in any folder). Boot into HBoot. When it asks you if you want to update, say yes.

I am more knowledgeable on flashing custom ROM's than RUU's so it is safer to wait for confirmation from one of the more senior members here.

But, we are almost there :)

my apologies, when i answered yesterday i did quickly, without much thot to what weve done prior... the threads tend to get mixed up in my head :o

after skimming back thru things,i realize we havent made any references to PD98IMG or instructed you to download one of those types of files,so its natural for you to be a lil confused.

just to make sure were on the same page, you are going to try flashing this ruu, wich is a slightly higher main version than yours:
RUU_Ace_Gingerbread_S_KT_KR_2.52.1010.2_Radio_12.59.60.26_26.11.04.21_M_release_201461_signed.exe - download now for free. File sharing. Software file sharing. Free file hosting. File upload. FileFactory.com

correct?

the .exe file cannot be run from the sd card, and it cannot be renamed PD98IMG

you may have had trouble getting the .exe to work if the phone was not in the correct mode. boot to hboot, then select fastboot from the hboot menu. once the phone is in fastboot, run the .exe as administrator if your version of windows permits that. make sure the gold card is in the phone.

i am downloading the file now,but you can get a .zip file much quicker than i can download and re-upload in the following manner,if you cannot get the .exe to run:
-run the .exe utility
-check the "i understand" box and move to the next screen
-now,just hide the utility out of the way, temporarily. search the c drive of your pc for "rom.zip". this may take a few minutes if you have alot of stuff on that drive.
-the pc should find rom.zip in a temporary location(it will be different every time you run the .exe). move or copy rom.zip from this location to somewhere safe on the PC.
-you can now drag the utility back into view and cancel its operation.

*rename rom.zip to PD98IMG and follow rals directions to put it on the root of the sd.

a word on naming: the phone must see PD98IMG.zip. windows likes to add and hide the file extension,so if your renameing with windonws, its usually correct to rename to "PD98IMG". manually adding the file extension results in the file name of "PD98IMG.zip.zip",wich will be invisible to the phone

there are only 2 reasons that the phone will not find a proper PD98IMG on the root of your SD:
1)not named correctly
2)sd card not formatted FAT32

Thanks - getting a CID error from the .img file method, and a similar error from the .exe, but the .exe is at least starting the update and getting to the updating signature part - think the problem is with making the goldcard, I will look for another sd card I have somewhere, try that and report back - looking a bit more promising though :)

Yup... the cid error indicates a prollem with the gold card. If we can get that worked out, hopefully you'll back in business :)

Hi all - still having probs with the goldcard. Got myself a Galaxy S3 the other day so will use that to make one hopefully - still want to get this thing resurrected!

Not sure if you can create a gold card with one type of phone to be used on another... ready to be told otherwise though!

does the s3 have an sd card? i thot it wsa like the nexus with an internal, nonremovable sd. but,its samsung... so i could be wrong :p

if it has an sd card spot,i see no reason why you couldnt use it to make the gold card. you just need adb to read the sd card CID. youll need to figure out wetehr the s3 mounts the sd card at mmc,or mmc2.

try the gold helper app,and see if it will run and give you the inverted cid :)

Hi all, resurrecting this thread - my gf managed to get her phone driven over so I've been trying to get the DHD back to life as a stand-in! Somehow, the phone has started booting and working ok for a few hours at a time now (didnt do anything specific, not sure why its happier now) but at some point it reboots and goes back into its 3 logo bootloop shenanigans. So I've been trying to update it with a more stable stock rom but no luck - at various points in the running off RUU.exes it loses the USB connection while waiting for the bootloader (cable is fine, hasnt been disconnected during the process). I tried unlocking the bootloader at htcdev.com so I can try flashing it via fastboot - but the required HBOOT update it gives me is an .exe - which also gives me this USB connection error so I'm in kind of a catch 22 situation with it. Just looking to get this thing working, root/custom ROM would be nice once its happier but just a stock 3 rom would be fine. Any idea whats causing this USB error? I'm 99.9% sure I have all the right drivers installed. There doesnt seem to be any kind of recovery on there either - choosing recovery from HBOOT gives me the red triangle and it wont see the sd card mounted (once its booted normally it sees the card ok).

Oh btw, the S3 does indeed have an SD slot - I don't want a phone without once as I'm too paranoid I'll need it one day to fix all these phone problems ;) - but it didnt help with the goldcard :(

Cheers everyone!
