Root Bricked Evo, and cant factory wipe. Help please

i just reran unrevoked 3 and it said "Error: failed to get root. Is your firmware too new?"

As far as the zip goes. I did what the guide said and named it "PC36IMG.zip"
 
Good. I would make a nandroid backup from recovery first before doing anything else. Do you know if the RUU you used was 3.70?
 
You might want t0 update your title , because you are definitely not bricked, congrats. Good work guys. keep updating this thread with your progress, it has been a very educational reading...
 
You will likely have to do the radio update. You can see what radio you have by booting the phone, go to settings> about phone> and see what baseband version you have. The latest is 2.15.00.11.19. If you have that then you should be good to go, if it is not that then you will need to do the radio update.

ok so my baseband is 2.15.00.07.28 so I have to do the radio update, right? All I have to do is select "apply sdcard:update.zip" right? or would I have to select "install zip from sdcard" first then update?"

also i'm on the 3.26.651.6 build/software number. I just read that the latest OTA is 3.70 so should I run a ruu of that build before trying any of these roms/radios/wimax?
 
Yes, you will have to do the radio update.

Download the Radio update and Rom from Myns links. Place them on the root of your sd card. Wipe all/factory reset. Wipe Davlik-cache. Flash the Rom. Reboot and let it fully load. Reboot to recovery. Flash the radio updates. Reboot and enjoy. All will be flashed through the "install zip from sd card" option. The latest Myns is based on the 3.70 update so no need to RUU to that.
 
Thanks guys; it looks like you got everything working :). I knew you'd get it fixed. I figured this was the state your phone was in. Now that you've got everything backup, one quick suggestion - when you flash the ROM (myn's) and the radios, flash them one right after the other. You shouldn't boot up a 3.70.651.1 based ROM (e.g. myn's RLS5) with the older radios. It might boot up, but it will be unstable if it does. So, you should flash the ROM in recovery, then without rebooting flash the radios, and follow the instructions. Wipe cache, dalvik, and data, of course.

Just a quick couple of notes - if you ever have to unroot again, use the correct one for your hboot version. Likely, you should have used the 3.70 RUU. Since you have S-OFF, it sort of worked using an old one. I'm going to guess you still have hboot 2.10, correct? Anyway, no harm done; just update the radios. Also, what exactly were you trying to do in the first place? What you're going to be doing now is flashing a ROM. Is that what you wanted to do in the first place?

Oh well, I install the rom and booted it and then install the radio and booting it up right now. It seems to be working right now.

when you mean by unrooting, do you mean run the 3.70 ruu? I'm not sure what hboot I have have right but I'm pretty sure it.s 2.10. I'll make sure to write down the specific one right away.

It's just an annoyance but is there anyway to correct this?

1) Eh, not a big deal. If it worked, that's great. It's more a of a general precaution to help you avoid a headache.

2) When I say unrooting, I mean taking your phone back to stock, completely, giving you no root permissions, and locking nand again (S-ON). To do that, you flash the unrevoked S-ON, and flash the appropriate RUU (via exe or PC36IMG). You should use the RUU or PC36IMG RUU for your hboot version. You used an older one, which normally wouldn't work, but it partially did because you had S-OFF at the time. If you ever want to unroot read the Rooting for Dummies guide, which will have links for both the unrevoked S-ON tool, and the appropriate PC36IMG.zip (simpler way to flash RUU) for your hboot version. You will want to choose the one for hboot 2.10 (or SW version 3.70.651.1). That will ensure you don't have these radio issues again. If you have hboot 2.10, you had the right radios, but they were downgraded with the RUU.

3) Sounds like you got it working fine. I was just currious how you got your phone in that state to begin with. You need to be careful flashing PC36IMG.zip files, as they are generic files used for flashing to different parts of the system. It sounds like you tried to flash one that had the contents of some RUU or another without realizing that's what you were doing. It wiped out recovery, and put your ROM in an unbootable state. Thankfully, as you now know, it's not too hard to fix :).

No worries; it's just a good idea to do it that way, but you don't *have* to if you're actually able to make it boot. You did an awesome job getting the OP up and running again :).
 
Just trying to pay it forward. Learned alot from you guys and reading the threads....time to help when I can. Thanks for being as helpful as you are on here.
 
Put u your micro sd card in your computer and put pc36img.zip (needs to be downloaded) on the card then hold the vol down button when use press the power button to boot into bootloader. Update pc36img when it asks u to u to update. The reboot your phone.

Do you have the drivers installed on the computer? You might try and install HTC Sync then uninstall it as it will install drivers for your phone then see if it sees your phone.
