Root Bricked it. Yay/sarcasm.

Kinda makes you wonder why the bootloader hasn't been cracked yet. We have some fine code breakers out there so it begs the question. Have they tried? Are they trying? or do most just say "nope, not gonna bother, it's too hard to break".

yeah I just saw this thread today. I'm curious to see how many people have the same success with it as I did. I literally have spent HOURS in the past (probably over 20 hours total) trying to get RSD and th SBF to play nice on my laptop with no success... wish I'd had found that info BEFORE I got rid of the X lol (well, gave it to my girlfriend) it would have made my modding at home much more comforting lol. oh well, hope it can at least help one other person out.

The Droid X has an encrypted bootloader that is of CIA quality - nobody is gonna break that code. There is a workaround for it however, and the developers have made use of the Droid X bootstrap, and with Gingerbread the Droid 2 bootstrap, permitting custom roms to be installed. The only thing that can't be changed is the kernel - but there's hope that Motorola, who seems to have changed their minds about custom roms and rooting in general, may simply unlock the bootloader (they DO of course, have the keys), either by some sort of OTA upgrade, or just release it to the development community at large.

Great. So what you saying is no one can break into my phone and steal my data cause it has a "CIA" grade encryption in it but terrorists can bomb landamarks in the USA and the "CIA" can't catch them?

Wow. Maybe the "CIA" should recrute Moto's encryption team huh?

No, what I was trying to explain was why the custom rom developers are not attempting to unlock the bootloader. Unlocking requires breaking the encryption - and as I said, that ain't gonna happen anytime soon. The developers have pounced on the opening that was found in the software of the bootloader, which allows "workarounds" - which is where the Droid X and Droid 2 Bootstrap devices come in. They permit developers (and users) to circumvent the very much locked bootloader and install custom roms.
