Help Bricked it?

My wife recieved the notice that her Wildfire could be updated to 2.2. She insisted that she didn't need my help and downloaded it via wifi. I left her to it at this point but a while later she came through looking concerned and showed me the white htc splash screen which had been stuck on for some time now. On investigation it seems she thought it was frozen so took the battery out:eek::eek::eek:
Well thats screwed it! I can get into the Hboot screen but that is it. When it checks the sd card it comes back with pc49diag.zip image missing and the same for other pc49diag files.
I have tried a few things after googling but none seem to work:(
Any ideas?

hmmm send it off to HTC if you have warranty.
you should never take the battery out unless the phone is powered down doing this when the update was happening has corrupt a file and now its screwed. ( joke )
just needs to be sent off.

Sorry to butt in on this thread, but I did similar while updating to 2.2 today- the installation finished and the phone got as far as the locked slide screen, but was the touchscreen was unresponsive. Took the battery out (which I guess I shouldn't have, d'oh!), no change. I then returned it to factory settings via the boot menu, which seems to have worked as my background has changed, but the screen is still unresponsive. So the phone turns on but I can't get past the locked screen.

Is there anything that might help this, or is sending it to htc the only option (still under warranty, but away from home for 2 weeks so no paperwork til then :( )

after a update you should always wait until the phone responds. send it back to HTC you could flash but it voids your warranty.
