Help Bricked Samsung Galaxy S3

Hi guys,

I have an unrooted Galaxy S3. Yesterday it started restarting all by itself, and a few hours later, it became stuck on the splash screen (screen with the Samsung Galaxy S3 logo).

It is a SGH-T999v

I have a lot of information that I did not backup yet from this phone, therefore I would like to save the most data I can.

I am able to go to download mode, and I downloaded the appropriate firmware.
But when I try to flash it with Odin, I cannot get a progress bar, nor on my phone

<ID:0/008> Odin v.3 engine (ID:8)..
<ID:0/008> File analysis..
<ID:0/008> SetupConnection..
<ID:0/008> Initialzation..
<ID:0/008> Get PIT for mapping..
<ID:0/008> Firmware update start..
<ID:0/008> sbl2.mbn
<ID:0/008> NAND Write Start!!

*EDIT*
I forgot to mention, I got my stock firmware from samsung-updates
KIES_HOME_T999VVLDMF2_T999VYVLDMF2_CL1189444_REV04_user_low_ship.tar
this is the one. I have a videotron (canadian) version. I hope this is the right one I have been using...

Any comment and advice would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you,

Mike

*UPDATE*
It says this now:
<ID:0/010> Odin v.3 engine (ID:10)..
<ID:0/010> File analysis..
<ID:0/010> SetupConnection..
<ID:0/010> Can't open the serial(COM) port.
<OSM> All threads completed. (succeed 0 / failed 1)

saving data at this point is going to be tricky.... if adb recognizes the device you can use the following:

--->adb backup-f boot boot.img
--->adb backup-f system system.img
--->adb backup-f data.img

regarding the issue with odin... try using a different USB cord, and/or a different port on your computer. Also, try getting the phone into download mode before you connect the device to the computer.

Hi,

I changed the cable and port, and after it stuck in the update mode for a while.

And now odin says:
<ID:0/010> Odin v.3 engine (ID:10)..
<ID:0/010> File analysis..
<ID:0/010> SetupConnection..
<ID:0/010> Initialzation..
<ID:0/010> Get PIT for mapping..
<ID:0/010> Firmware update start..
<ID:0/010> sbl2.mbn
<ID:0/010> NAND Write Start!!
<ID:0/010> FAIL!
<OSM> All threads completed. (succeed 0 / failed 1)

Also, I entered download mode before connecting the cable.

Thanks

can you link me to the firmware you downloaded?

also, im thinking that KIES needs to be uninstalled for odin to work. (try uninstalling and then re-booting the pc.) and make sure you have the correct USB drivers for the device installed.

Hi,

Here is the link to which I downloaded my firmware
http://samsung-updates.com/device/?id=SGH-T999V
and the link I downloaded the VTR version for Videotron

I will try to uninstall kies and try again!

Thanks

Kies should ke kept for its drivers. Just DONT have kies open while using odin. Dont give up with fixing the phone. I dont know the phone so i duno what firmware u need but KJohns seems knowledgable. Keep trying. The phone isnt bricked :thumbup:

ok... finally got the download completed from that sammobile link. (only took about an hour with a nice computer, but i digress...)

from sammobile... downloaded the firmware for your device and carrier. contains:

---> KIES_HOME_T999VVLDLL1_T999VYVLDLL1_CL616748_REV04_user_low_ship.tar(.md5)

this is what you want to put under the odin "PDA" section. check autoreboot and uncheck all other options. Post back with (if any) success/error.

Thank you KJohns!

it took me a lot of time to flash, I still can't see the progress bar, but it occurred to me that I also checked Factory Reset Time.

I will try to re-odin it tonight when I get home!

I will let you know how it went! Thanks again!
