I'm sorry if this has been answered before, but I couldn't find anything to help.

I tried to upgrade the firmware on my captivate to 2.3 through odin but now when I turn on my phone all I get is the start up screen the colorful lines.

I can still run odin3 and I can get into download mode on my phone.

Is there anything I can do to get past the colored lines and get my phone back to normal?

Thank you for replying and that's exactly what it looked like. I just got my phone back up and running by going back to 2.1 using odin, but now everything on my phone is erased. Im guessing since my back up failed before I did this im out of luck on getting anything back?
 
Well, I don't know anything about your previous backup but let's move forward. The following is predicated on my ignorance about your setup and my hope that your device is rooted.

If you don't have an external microSD card, get one and install it in your phone. Obtain Titanium Backup and MyBackup Pro. Assure that the backups you create are domiciled on the external microSD card. This helps avoid erasure and also becomes a portable source for app and data restoration should you need to exchange your phone or if your internal "stuff" get deleted.

Have you decided on a gingerbread ROM? Is that where you're heading?
 
I'm sorry I'm really new and this so forgive me if I sound stupid. This probably shouldnt even be in this thread anymore since I dont think it's a rooting issue anymore since I got my phone back up and running.


I don't even care about gingerbread now. I'm back to 2.1
I have my pictures and music on my phone still, but my contacts and apps are gone. There's no possible way I can get those back, right?
 
If your original backup failed and you clicked on the apps button without result, your apps are gone. Similarly, if your Contacts function brings up nothing...well, you know the rest.

You haven't installed a microSD card, have you?

I suppose you know now that if you're going to futz with your device in any meaningful way, assure that you first have a viable backup (I have two using two different backup applications). I'm not being paternal, but rather re-enforcing what's a good habit.

Thank you for everything, but yes when I go into my back up folder there's nothing there. So I'm assuming something didnt go as planned.
