Broken but functioning screen?

Hello everyone,

So I had what I initially thought was the worst thing possible happen yesterday: My HTC Desire (US Cellular, rooted and flashed with a Cyanogen nightly build) fell out of my jacket pocket onto concrete and I saw cracks in the glass. The thing is, when I turned on the screen, I found that both the screen visuals AND the touch screen worked perfectly fine, even all around the cracked area (upper-left corner). While I was greatly relieved to find that everything functions fine, I'm obviously still not very happy that it doesn't look all that great. Knowing this, is there any way I could simply replace only the glass outer-most portion of the screen, or will I have to replace the entire touch screen digitizer, too?

Thanks in advance.

eeek a mobile owners nightmare! erm you might be able to get away with just replacing the outer glass, unless obviously its all one unit.

Thanks Harry. It appears that although my touch screen functions properly, I would still need to replace the whole digitizer unit, which is clearly no small task. Unfortunately I also would have to remove flash and root if I expected any kind of repair under warranty. Dang, I wish it wasn't such an intense process to replace all of that! I have experience doing this kind of repair, but I can't say I've always had 100% success.

Regardless, thanks for the help. I will report back once I've made a decision on what to do and the outcome.
