My trusty thunderbolt finally took one fall too many and ended up with a cracked screen. Just the glass has spidered, the LCD is fine. I watched some videos of glass replacement and it just seems too difficult and I don't have the tools required. Places around town (LA) are quoting me $130-$150 for a replacement which seems unreasonable to me. Am I way off? Have any of you had any luck or good stories you can share about screen replacements? I'm still about six months away from an upgrade and don't think I can wait that long looking at this screen. It depresses me. Any comments appreciated!

My phone was knocked out of my hands a few months ago and it broke the LCD, so I bought a replacement to repair it myself. It didn't turn out that great...the adhesive that sticks the LCD and the glass digitizer together didn't work too great after I pulled it apart and I couldn't get them both to line up together. Pulling the phone apart up to that part was pretty easy, so I'd suggest finding a replacement LCD/glass combo that's already attached together. Taking the phone apart up to that point means just pulling the ribbon cables, replacing the screen assembly, and reattaching the cables. If that sounds like too much, I bought a replacement T-bolt on ebay for about $150 and it was actually in better condition that my phone was before it broke, plus it came with another 32 gb SD card, which I gave to my wife.

I am assuming that you don't have insurance? If you do, you could just file a claim and pay the deductible for a "like new" phone.
