Help Broken screen

Android Version: 2.2
Network:Vodafone
Taskiller Used?: no
Issue:
when switched on my screen was blank but all the phone buttons were lit up and working. rebooted and still the same issue, took batterey out same issue. when I looked further I noticed a small crack in the screen (the one at the back). My phone was out of warranty and no insurance so I ordered a new screen myself and changed it. still the same issue but this time the touchscreen works where it didn't before, i accidentally left the phone switched on and one of my alarms went off in the morning. I was able to switch it off by swiping down the screen as normal. Before I changed the screen I wasn't able to do this. Looking on various websites it appears this is a common issue so I am wondering if it is something other than the screen itself causing the problem? Any ideas?

Thanks

It was my other half that did the changing and he said it was an SLCD screen he used but now he thinks he may have used the wrong one and wants to try a samsung one. does this really make a difference? which screen should we be using?

It depends on the phone. The desire originally used AMOLED until a shortage occurred.

It DOES matter which you use. SLCD will only work in SLCD desires. AMOLED in AMOLED.

If the phone came in a HTC box, under screen type it will say AMOLED listed on the side of the box for an AMOLED desire.

SLCD's boxes do not list screen type at all.

ok tried both SLCD and the Ameloid screens now and neither works. when you plug in the phone to the computer it does talk to the computer but no screen....any ideas???
