Brooklyn, NY. New Android User

Hi,

I live in Brooklyn, NY. I'm an engineer, building contractor, poker player, and photographer.

I just got a Nexus 7 2013 2nd Gen.

All I really wanted to do was listen to audio books; but I couldn't find an audiobook player that actually worked properly. I had two Creative Zens and they both didn't; and I got no help from Creative about them.

So, I went with something bigger, but I figured then I could use it to watch videos and read ebooks and pdfs, so the inconvenience of the size over an mp3 player would be justified.

Mainly, I will be loading it with educational material in math and engineering subjects. But I will also put some music and light reading material in there, too. My favorite books are generally non-fiction, and I mostly like science and biographies.

The tablet I got came with a Poetic cover, and I drilled a hole in it to attach a lanyard with a quick release connector to which I can attach an OP/TECH brand neoprene hand strap. That's so it won't slip out of my hand, especially when I will be watching it on the subway on the way home and am prone to falling asleep. The strap is marketed as a camera strap, and I swiped it off my Leica-sonic compact; so it will be doing double duty now.

I know next to nothing about android devices (or i devices for that matter,) but I am learning a lot now. As for computer use in general, I would consider myself an intermediate user. I mainly use a Windows based PC that I build myself, and a Lenovo Thinkpad laptop running Linux ubuntu.

I don't do any code writing to speak of; but I plan on learning a little more about that soon.

Hi BRAINZ. I only heard of rooting since I got to these forums. I am running the original OS.

For now, I would like to know:

- Where the settings panel is
- How to find what OS version I'm using
- How to set up a directory structure for my data.
- In particular, how to make a folder or subfolder for my audio books. And possibly a subfolder for different kinds of audiobooks.
- Similar folders for various videos

Thanks for asking.
