Browser Question

Hello,

I am new to the Android phone and I bought a new LG Motion phone from MetroPCS a few days ago. On the phone, it has two applications. One is marked Chrome and the other one was provided by MetroPCS. What is the difference between the two browsers? Also, when I am done with the internet, is it a good idea to leave the browser with the tab(s) open, or do I have to shut down the tabs before I leave the application? What would be the leakage if I do either/or? Finally, how come I can not set up a home page on the Chrome browser?

I am thrilled by the phone and I look forward to having it for a while. It is my first smartphone and it is an exciting journey for me. I look forward to studying the features on Saturday, when I have my day off from work. This forum seems like a place that would provide the vehicle necessary to get to the destination of Android knowledge.

MetroWeb is just the stock Android web browser re-branded by MetroPCS.

Chrome is Chrome. :)

With Chrome, you don't need to worry about closing tabs. In fact, your open tabs will remain even between reboots. Chrome must log the open pages in a separate file so it can track "open" sites without physically leaving the page in memory.

MetroWeb is the opposite, and keeps open tabs in memory.

Due to the nature of Android, if you have lots of tabs open causing the browser to use excess RAM and you happen to leave the browser and open another program, the system will automatically close the browser to free RAM.

Chrome is a much better browser IMO than the stock "MetroWeb" browser; faster, lighter, and all around better.

If you're a windows user; MetroWeb:Notepad::Chrome:MS Word
