Browser selection

When I first got my Google Samsung Galaxy Nexus, clicking on the "globe" at the bottom right brought up the phone's built-in browser.

I added Chrome for a browser, and from then on, when I clicked on the globe, I got offered a choice of the standard browser, or Chrome.

I just added Firefox. I expected clicking on the globe to now offer a choice of three browsers, but instead it just goes to the phone's default setting.

I went into the browser settings, and restored the defaults. No change. Is it possible to configure the "globe" to do what I prefer, simply bring up a choice of which browser I want to use? If not, is there a "Network" app I can use instead, which will simply do the same thing, ask which browser to use? If Chrome made this work, then what did I "break" when I also added Firefox to the phone?

I'm sure that would work, but if it worked automatically with the default browser and with Chrome, I think it should do the same with three browsers.

The folder idea is my backup plan, but everything worked so smoothly right after I added Chrome....... I didn't create a folder for the two browsers, the phone was smart enough to understand what I had done, and to give me a choice. Somehow.

The "globe" is the icon for the Android Browser, not some kind of generic "I want to browse" icon. So I think trying to make "the globe" anything other than that is a stretch.

I think Google made it prompt you Chrome so you would realize there's a choice.

And it should still prompt you at first when you call a web search from some other program, like hitting a link in Plume or something.

Drag "the globe" off of the desktop and don't use it again. Put Chrome on your bottom app bar. Done. (Folder idea is good if you're always wanting to choose different ones).

Did you maybe select one of the browsers as a default OP? I personally like the folders idea. But I have tons of folders ;)

I think Jay is right "I think Google made it prompt you Chrome so you would realize there's a choice." That being the case, I'd now like to have three choices, if it was possible. No, I deliberately did not make anything the default - as I haven't yet decided what I want for a default. It's not all that big a deal, but it's annoying that I "broke" something without intending to. ....and if the globe is the icon for the default browser that comes with the phone, everything makes sense - except how did Chrome get to bring up a choice?

Google obviously has lots of tricks that we're just getting to know about. :-)
