Browsing internet battery drain

I read blogs on Dolphin Browser and it's fairly power intensive with it being text with a bright white screen.

I've got the brightness add-on and it's at it's lowest. But what i reckon would be better is if there was a "negative" or "inverted video" option if you know what i mean where it was white text on black background. Does anyone know of such a function on an android browser?

Can't help you with the negative app I'm afraid, but I use Dolphin too quite intensively, and have done for a while and there's no difference in battery drain between that and the stock browser.

Hope you find what you're looking for.

It's surprising because i thought there would be a lot of demand for it. I know apps like Wapedia do it for wikipedia so i'm amazed there isn't yet a browser that does it for the net.

I don't think this would make a lot of difference to battery usage for a lot of users. All new and reasonably new Desires used SLCD screens rather than AMOLED. An LCD screen will actually use more power displaying black than it will white because it has to change the pixel colour to occlude the backlight, whereas an AMOLED pixel just turns itself off (hence power saving).

It would be good as an option in Dolphin for users who definitely have this type of screen, though it's hard to tell how much extra battery life you'd get out of it.

Interesting point. Didn't know the scoop about the change in screen technology. I have AMOLED as i got it in March '10.

For the LED users i definitely reckon it'd save juice, it's also easier on the eye if you're reading in a dark room.

Yes amoled pixels are off for black. Slcd uses more power for black than white I believe as it has to try hard to produce black using light
