Help BT voice call mode

cruncho1

Newbie
ok I used search forum first I'm blind or no one has asked this question as of yet...
ok when I plug in BT for speach recognition for calls it takes forever for nuance to boot... by that time I could have pulled the phone out of my pocket and found shade to see the screen and manually made the call form contacts...hmmm this is a phone?? i have used voice for years no troubles before this phone.. also it does not prompt me through the head set I hear nothing from the voice engine just see the display on the screen...
The same stereo BT works in my Samsung Juke all funtions.. is this this phone?? from what i have researched this version of droid should support these basic old tech phone chores???

Again if this was covered elsewhere here I looked with the search feature and got ))))00000 returns
thanks all

S' ok, cruncho1. I believe you searched first! ;)

Now as far as the Nuance problem is concerned, test assured, I strongly doubt it's your blue tooth head set. For some reason so far escaping me, the first time nuance is started, it takes FOREVER to do anything (blue tooth or no bluetooth). I have checked to make sure it loads at startup, and it's find there. I don't know if it's something to do with the speech engine (i vaguely remember a comment about this on the marketplace), but so far I'd stay away from Nuance unless you already used it during the same section. As far as the prompts are concerned, I believe that is to be enabled in the voice settings. Let me do some research and I'll get back to you.

thanks i have all settings in phone set in volume section...
I have also tried the phones version of hands free.....
if not nuance what?? when I hit the call button on the head set it opens nuance,,, oh also same on wired head set.. just tried that after i posted this last night.. I cannot even fine this answer in google so far ... hmmmm.
I have been taking my win6.5 phone when i leave the house.. lol so i have VR

It's not your unit. It's Nuance's fault. For some reason, even though it is initialized at boot time, it still takes forever to load when first called. Subsequent calls should be normal after that though. So try and let me know if you notice slightly different behavior...

this isnt a total fix but should speed it up a bit.

open nuance
go to settings menu
go to adaptation and have it adjust to your voice(do this in a quiet room
go to Audio Mode in settings and set it to EXPERT

thnks guys I'll try Mike's idea tonight... I've been paying that extra fee to metro to also have same number on my Samsung Code Win phone running 6.5.. it at least acts like a phone for when I'm not at home...;)lol

I guess what i really need to do is find a way to disable nuance and use a different VR application in it's place.
The real reason I even first got an android phone was so I could not only develop for PC and win mobile but also Droid.. but I have fallen in love with the little computer called the Indulge... there is honestly not one available smart phone with a keyboard out yet that is more powerful... with 4G

Maybe I'm missing something here, but why use a program like Nuance when the voice recognition built in to the Android platform is already so good? Or are you saying that you can't change the default app that opens when you perform certain actions (like turn on BT headset, for example)?

That's what he's talking about. The voice based dialer program. On this phone, that's definitely Nuance, was the same on the Caliber as well, but it didn't take 3 minutes to initialize, lol.
I'm sure we can probably dig up something better...

Are you saying Nuance = built in Android voice recognition?

no as i am running an experimental voice activated AI program that searches and uses the system global VR and it is using Pico TTS << system default on this phone. and i gave it some better licensed voices.. On my production version on my Puter i use licensed Dragon... but even if I fire up my AI and tell her to place a call.. immediately she losses all VR control as the dialer opens and then here com slow loading Nuance... I figured that problem I would work on later.. then i found nuance is tied by default to the dialer.... this is stupid.... .. worse yet i have never tryed to work on scripting for any mobile devices and am still tryoing to learn android.. very frustrating..
If any dev's would care to give us VR on these phone that functions as fast and flawlessly as it has since '98 on most cells not only would they have a patch-product they could sell if they wanted but I'll definitely "Donate to the completed venture"
I just wish i had more time to study up on droid sdk :eek:now

help?

I don't know Nuance really. But this might be part of your problems.

First is the "prompts" or talk back your refering to.
Many apps will run off of already programmed apps on the phones. Make sure all voice settings are turned on in any of the factory voice command apps. It could be possiable that one of them is blocking Nuance due to the factory voice settings being turned off.

As for the speed........does Nuance run on the network to do VR like the factoy one does? If so if you are on 1x network while using it run time will be extremly slow just like the factory voice app. That google has on our indulge.
