I just noticed this problem when I was searching for a contact I added several days earlier to one of several google accounts I am syncing with the nexus S running ICS: the contact could not be found on the device.
I checked that the contacts app is set to show all contacts from all accounts. I also just turned off & back on the device.
Moreover, I have just from a computer added a new phone number to the contact in question and when I go to the phone app to view the call history, the entry corresponding to that number changed from "unknown" to the contact's name! Then I went back to the contacts app to search and the contact is still not there!
Anyone else seen this bug?
