Help Bug - WiFi / sleep policy causing wake lock for Android system process & draining battery

Figured out the only real change I have made since my battery drain started to happen was I added a external brand new microsd card. I unmounted the card and battery drain issue is resolved with Wifi sleep set to Never! I really think that reformatting the sd card would have also resovled the issue but for now im leaving it unmounted. :)

Yeah I didn't have the battery problems while I was on baseband JF6. As soon as the OTA update popped up in late November, my battery has been dying.

So I fully charged my battery and decided to test out the wifi again.

in 15h 46 mins my battery went from 100% to dead.

Usage:

41% Cell standby
29% Phone Idle
23% Display
4% Wi-Fi
2% Android OS
2% Android System

Other data: I disabled GPS, sounds, vibration, have a black screen background, turned off auto-sync... but left background data. My display is at 15%. Pretty much I have tried to conserve as much battery as possible. I haven't tried unmounting the SD like you but based on my usage I don't see a lot coming from Android or Wi-Fi.

I will fully charge my phone and leave Wi-Fi off to see the difference with the same settings later tonight.

Go into *#*#4636#*#* for Test mode. Then go into battery history. Check Other Usage and see what % you have for running, wifi on, and wifi running.

Unfortunately I drained my battery completely and recharged it. I'll have to post data before the next drain. This is very useful info, thanks!

Total data:
Running 12.7%
Screen on 5.1%
Phone 0.2%
Wifi On 19.5%
Wifi Running 19.4%
Bluetooth 0.4%

Uptime 2:33 Battery 78%. Battery is draining about 9% per hour with wifi.
Running 18.3%
Screen on 16.5%
Wifi On 92.9%
Wifi Running 92.9%
Bluetooth On 0.7%

Uptime: 21:03 Battery 87%. Wifi Off.
Running 1.5%

Wifi On 0%
Wifi Running 0%

My running/screen usage seems to be a lot higher with wifi although I didn't use it that much except for texting and brief browsing. I did the same amount of texting with Wifi off. Looks like my viable option is to leave Wifi off. I can't browse the web with 0-1 bar reception on 3G.

I used to set my WiFi on all the time and my battery could last 2 - 3 days. But after a Gmail upgrade 2 - 3 months ago, my battery only lasts about 1 day. If I turns off the auto-sync for Google (only turn it on when I need to check mail, sync calendar), I can significantly increase my battery life. I can further increase my battery life if I only use 3G with auto-sync turned off.

Also I think there is some real issue with Captivate/Android WiFi function. Often my phone cannot connect to the WiFi router (showing it disabled).

I am running 2.2 and anxiously waiting for 2.3 with the hope that it might fix this issue.
